batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2018 Author Posted April 30, 2018 Kinda cruel to bump this, no? But apropos to Nomar's post in the "Where Mets Rank" thread.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 I highly doubt it. I seriously hope I am wrong, but I don't expect to see David Wright play MLB again, unless it is a ceremonial appearance at the end of a season to essentially allow the fans to say goodbye and show their appreciation for his having been the face of the franchise for many years.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Agreed, I think he's toast. What a bummer.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Sad to think he's done. But it sure looks like he is. He's not even an afterthought any more. That ceremonial appearance, if it's in an official game, would cost the Wilpons millions in insurance money, wouldn't it? And if he makes a pinch-hit appearance and strikes out (which is very likely), wouldn't that be kind of a downer?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 I imagine he won't be activated unless he's there to actually be active. But a one-day appearance shouldn't cost the team too much, as I understand the arrangement.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 You know, even if he were to suddenly be able to play, does he even have a place on this team? You don't play him over any regulars, and it's hard to cut a bench player for a guy who may not be able to answer the bell on any given day.So at the end, it wasn't even the spinal stenosis that did him in right? It was the neck and shoulder injury?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 If he was ever actually ready, you figure it out. Gonzalez wont be here forever so that's the roater spot. Playing time? Earn it.

And it's impossible to say where we'll be when that time comes. If he's magically healed and MLB ready right now, though, you're right, there's no place for him on the roster. Thankfully, that's not an issue.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 That would be kinda funny if David bumped his ol' buddy Jose off the bus.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 If he was magically ready to play today, he might be taking Céspedes' place on the roster. Work on getting him ready and worry about where he fits if and when it comes to that.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 I'll be on medicare before David can play mlb
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 SNY was playing the Colon HR game last night. Did you know that in that game, David Wright was 2 for 2 with a HR and 3 BB?That was May 7, 2016. He looked strong and relatively healthy. It's crazy what a difference 2 years makes.
