Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Interesting. Here's a link to the original article, by Rich Mancuso: Exclusive: Cespedes Meets With The MetsI don't know how credible Mancuso is, but here's what he's' saying:A source at Roc Nation, agents for Cespedes, and involved in their pro boxing division, was able to confirm that negotiations reopened late Wednesday with Cespedes and the Mets organization. And two other sources with knowledge have been able to confirm that Cespedes and the Mets are meeting with a one or two year deal on the table that is agreeable for both sides.(Why the mention of the pro boxing division?)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I gleaned that the source was a person who works with the boxing clients, and therefore is likely something less than a firsthand witness to whatever engagement has occurred among the Mets, the agency, and Cespedes himself, and Mancuso threw in that clause to give us then necessary grain of salt.A contract could be in the hammering-out stages right NOW!!!! Or, alternatively, Cespedes left a pair of golf shoes in his locker and wants them back.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I'm looking forward to Mets Hot Stove this evening. If this really is a developing story, by 6 p.m. things may be a bit more clear.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Jesus, I may come in off the ledge for this.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Too late. Hopes are up. COME ON, SANDY.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I have zero faith this is any more info than we knew yesterday. (That the Mets were still talking to Cespedes, but were talking shorter deal)
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 If he's willing to go shorter this will bring a lot of other teams into the mix. I'm pessimistic.

Like not a peep of this anywhere else.Heyman reported yesterday that the Mets were one of few teams still in contact with Cespedes and appeared to be firm on a 2-3 year offering. There seemed to be other reports mentioning Atlanta so my guess is Cespedes' agent is trying to drum up more interest right now and seeing if anyone is willing to go more.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Source: Mets and Cespedes Closing In On 1-2 Year Deal? You know what would be great? A 1-year deal.Jim Duquette (on Mets Hot Stove) has been using the term "pillow contract" regarding Cespedes. I'm not sure where the term comes from, but it would be a one-year deal that would allow Cespedes to test the free agent market again next year, when, according to Duquette, there will be less outfield competition. The risk to that, of course, would be that he'd be a year older and perhaps injured.I'm not sure what the ideal deal length is. From the Mets perspective, I'd be okay with them going to a second year, but that would probably make less sense for Cespedes, because then he'll be two years older for his next free agency. My hunch is that he'll either get a four- or five-year deal from someone, or go for the one-year pillow deal. I'm not sure that a two-year contract makes sense for him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I love the phrasing of "firm in a 2-3 year offering." Two to three years leaves a 50% wiggle zone.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Too much info out there that is based on info that's been (being)info'd already and passed off as info.Know what I'm sayin'?It does turn up my anxiety level a little for a shorty deal for bigcash for the Yo'man though.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Two years, $50M. Mutual option for a third at $25M too.DO IT, SANDY.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I'd be totally down with that.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I would even give him an opt out after 1 year. We'd get a draft pick.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Yes! That could be the kind of thing that gets the deal done.We can also throw in 72 virgins if we have to.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I think it's a bad sign that not a single other source has picked this up.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 If this goes down I can't wait to see how many lay claim to havebroke the story. Prediction: 2 years, $48 million, with YC given anopt out after this year if desired...
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Adam Rubin, pissing in everyone's cornflakes:Adam Rubin ESPN Staff Writer From a second person in the know: The Mets maintain contact with Yoenis Cespedes' representatives about a short-term deal, but it is likely he gets a longer-term deal, or one with a higher average annual value, and signs elsewhere.
