Oh, I'd buy a luxury box, or a suite, or whatever it is you can buy as an obscenely wealthy fan, but I don't think I'd buy a share of the ballclub.

you don't have that option. You hit the powerball AND buy the Mets. it happens. now what?

OK - the Mets Hall of Fame isn't nearly large enough to pay tribute to the team's history, plus it has to share space with the gift shop. Fuck that - I'd construct a free standing building between Citi Field and the 7 Line that would be large enough to pay the team proper homage. Fans would get free admission with tickets to that day's game, or could pay $5 if they don't have a game ticket; this new HOF would be open year round.

And while we're at it, I'd build it where the old 7 Line subway terminal used to be and reconstruct the raised walkway from the subway across Roosevelt Avenue to the stadium.

I'd terminate McF's lease, give pub leases to Cranepool posters for $1/year.

Mr. Kong, yes, Officer Greeley here. Sorry to bother you again. There seem to be about 300 nude Latvian women assembling in your parking lot...

By the way, the above answer is what I'd do with the team.

Me, personally, I'd be wearing a tracksuit and shades cruising around in my batmobile doing laps around CitiField blasting 90's rap.

Rollin down the street, smoking indo, sippin on gin and juice (with my mind on my money and my money on my mind).

Which Batmobile? I'm sure you know which I'd go after.

1. Rename Citi Seaver Field.

2. Statues for Gil, Casey, Yogi, Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Strawberry, Piazza(retire his #31) and a few more the fans can pick. I'd want one for Murphy and Kiner.

3. Sure, another level of seating. Affordable tickets (which means moneyball every year-I'd keep Sandy). All fans in the place can move down after the 3rd inning no matter who we're playing (also, no tier tickets).

4. I'll design the new scoreboard myself. It'll be bombastic.

5. No more camo unis. All kinds of throwback unis instead.

6. The yearbook would come with a set of 41 Mets fantazy cards every season. Perforated cardboard pages in the middle. You can leave them in the yearbook or cut em out and put em in plastic or a binder. Make it a traditional thing.

Thanks for slowing down that Bowie gif. That was ridiculously fast. Hey, if I bought the Mets, I'd let you design the new scoreboard. With my input, of course. And I don't mind bombastic. Scoreboards should be bombastic, shouldn't they? It's only about the aesthetics. And the info. What would Bill Veeck do?

I think he woulda put a midget with a gigantic chalkboard out there.

My design would be a huge round Mets logo, the best logo known to man and the universe, that was like a Transformer™ that turned into a nice big rectangular scoreboard with the logo city scape on top and the logo bridge at the bottom. On Met homers, it transforms into an apple! It'll be able to project an enormous 3-D holographic replay some 60 feet above the center of the field and everyone in the stadium can see the replay from a different angle.

Change of plans. I'm gonna buy Lego and construct a life size Lego '66 Batmobile.

premise: I have enough money to own 100% of the Mets and i buy them.

If so, i would treat the team as a charitable foundation and:

* Give 49% of the team to the City (in exchange for city improvement of roads, access, public transportation, parking, maintenance, and urban development of the local community), and allowing them the veto authority over any move of the franchise and public review of the team's finances;
* Build new stadium (at least 60,000 seats), based on classical architecture (no retro, no "modern" [which dates even faster than "retro"], to be called "Metropolis Field", with no obstructed views, a retractable roof and the highest tech score board that can be produced by ILM, and specifically designated areas of the park (the Krane Pool, Kiner's Korner, the Strawberry Patch, Payson Pavillion); with ads and concessions only from NY-based businesses; and with the stadium, grounds and common areas designed with statues, gardens, murals and other commissioned art celebrating the history of the team (including its national league baseball antecedents), plus an interactive Mets Museum and Hall of Fame (accessible to the general public year round);
* 1000 free tickets per game to local schools, camps and hospitals, plus cool giveaways for every fan at games Monday-Thursday and Sunday afternoons;
* NY Heroes Game on Sunday closest to 9/11, with players wearing 1st Responder hats and free tickets to any family of first responders who died as a direct result of 9/11;
* Mets Old Timer's Game and a Future's game, on Weekend before the All-Star break;
* Free Broadcast local TV package of at least 10 games;
* Using the facilities for Community-based services when no games are scheduled (food drives, public concerts, green markets, job and health fairs, etc);
* 1 Home uni, 1 road uni, 1 throwback uni for special events (and no black);
* SNY features more baseball-related content than just the games (documentaries, talk shows, game shows, news, interviews, analysis, movies, dramas, sitcoms, mini-series, etc), with an on-demand archive of every broadcast in Mets history that still exists;
* Hire management with respect for quantitative analysis, and the resources to establish best scouting system in baseball (including academies in Cuba, Mexico, DR, Japan, Korea, Australia and Europe), and a minor league system with all teams in the northeast and southeast, including the purchase of the Long Island Ducks, and making them our AAA affiliate, and a guarantee that the Mets will maintain a 25-man roster with a budget among the top 25% of teams every year.

Then, i'll watch the games from my suite, sitting with my friends, being served nathan's hot dogs and Brooklyn Lager by Hooter's Girls, stopping into the booth once in a while to chat with Gary, Howie, Ron and Keith, to tell the fans what i REALLY think.

Until the day I die; at which point the remaining ownership will also go to the city, with my family maintaining an ongoing profit participation and luxury box in perpetuity.

Suggestion: Piggie's Garden, an onsite, year-round rooftop (community?) farm supplying all City Field (I like the name, stripped of corporate affiliation) concessions.

Or, you know, maybe a winter fan fest. For once.

This!

Kudos to the people who have been putting the Queens Baseball Convention together, but it's nothing compared to what other teams do. We deserve a team-run fan fest, dammit!

I'm hoping Vic will hire me as a roving scout. So I can spend my time scouring the beaches of DR, Cancun, Bermuda, PR and Aruba for baseball talent.

And by scouring, I mean lying around drunk under an umbrella.

You'll be scouting the cricket talent in Bermuda (only if that guy from the West Indies is successful switching from cricket to baseball).

DOH! I totally thought of that and then forgot to include it! (not the supplying of of concessions, part, but the community vegetable garden part -- but your idea is better.)

Okay.

Actual size Lego Batmobile and Mattmobile AND I'll lend Fred the flow (at a decent interest rate) to get Cespedes. I'll help him again when the pitchers contracts come up. Fuck owning the Mets. I'll own the Wilpons.
