stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Way too many stories with this guy.Maybe a nice change of scenery to a mid or small market city would do him some good.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 The dangerous thing about such workout days is that there are many writers and they ALL need to file something -- and all of them used their best off-day ideas yesterday. The goal is to not provide fodder for stupid stories. The other goal is to give them something better to write about. That said, I suspect we've all been caught in crazy New York traffic at least once.

Guest cooby Guests Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 lol...now THAT would be a good story. The "stuck in traffic" one is kinda lame. Chained to a bed until the little French chambermaid found him sounds much more juicy!
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I believe Harvey had a flashback to his college days at UNC and thought it was a manditory class, so naturally he skipped it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Holy cow it's Didn't-Show-Up-For-Workout-Gate!Bored reporters. Whatevs. You think Jim Bouton carted his hungover ass out of bed for every Monday workout? Puh-lease.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 It's not bored reporters. The star pitcher let his team downand then had to have a press conference for damage control. It will be talked about Game One on national television anddefinitely again when he gets the ball for Game Three. It's anunneeded distraction from a guy who should be becoming aleader and not a constant me-me-me guy all the time.I didn't mean to call Terry a dumbass above... but the stickingup for this crap by saying it's not a big thing (when obviouslyTC and his team mates are tiring of the side shows) is totallyjust putting blinders on.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 the guy showed up late for a workout, it's not like it was a game, or BP, or whatever. it happens, no one's perfect. It's not like he did it maliciously. He'll answer for it, internally, as the case should be. "Let the team down?" hell, if no one had said anything half the guys probably wouldn't have even realized he wasn't there. Like I said earlier, Lagares misses a workout and we wouldn't even have heard about it. The national broadcast is going to talk about a lot of inane stuff, that's not really a barometer. And I doubt anyone on the team cares. It's the playoffs. Matt will pay his fine or whatever and they'll consider the matter closed.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Yeah being late much worse crime than eating lunch while a game is going on.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I was an hour late to my own wedding because I got stuck in traffic on the Long Island Expressway.[crossout](Well, I wasn't exactly chained to the bed.)[/crossout]I believe him.Later
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Matt Harvey issued this statement:Practice? We talkin' bout practice? We not talkin' bout the game. We talkin' about practice. I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. (Within, of course, the constraints of my innings limit.) Not the game, but we're talkin' about practice, man. I mean, how silly is that? And we talking about practice. I know I supposed to be there. I know I'm supposed to lead by example... I know that... And I'm not.. I'm not shoving it aside, you know, like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I do. I honestly do... But we talkin' about practice man.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 The Mets posted pics of this morning's workout on social media and Harvey was in attendance. Traffic must have been lighter this morning.Seriously, though, I find it really hard to get my undies in a bundle over this one.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Not sure if this was posted yet. Ron Darling adds perspective to Matt Harvey's late arrival to Mets' practiceUpdated October 7, 2015 10:47 PMBy ANTHONY RIEBER anthony.rieber@newsday.comPITTSBURGH -- On the day after Matt Harvey's late arrival to Mets practice, pitching coach Dan Warthen on Wednesday said, "There were a lot of boys on that '86 team that didn't make practice, either."Ron Darling, an actual '86 Met, said he understood what Warthen meant: The latest L'Affaire Harvey isn't the biggest deal and shouldn't stop the Mets from reaching their ultimate goal."It's really hard for me to criticize," Darling said last night at PNC Park, where he called the Pirates-Cubs NL wild-card game for TBS. "Half our team didn't make the [World Series] parade . . . We had guys who barely showed up to games."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 They were young men in the eighties acting like young men, but Darling is more than a little caught up in the myth of the team. It's absolutely untrue that half of them didn't make the parade. And to the extent that it's got an air or truthiness, well, the next point may be to note that there may be a reason it was your last parade.

I don't really think that this is the template we want to use going forward.
