This guy is probably thrilled by the Dodgers and Cardinals meeting in the NLCS, and not just because he's in Southern California. Don't know if anybody else is totally stoked, but here they are, meeting for the fourth time in postseason play. 1985 went to Ozzie and Clark over Niedenfuer. 2004 was a Redbird triumph, marked by Jim Tracy and Tony LaRussa making their players shake hands afterward a la the Stanley Cup; it didn't catch on. 2009 belonged to the Dodgers when Matt Holliday experienced a whoopsie.

And now this, the team that spent a ton of money versus the team that keeps manufacturing mint-condition rookies. It's the kind of series only an '80s movie villain would relish.

"Best fans in baseball" vs "Worst fans in baseball"... feh.
A plague on both their houses.

Either way, i'm rooting for Boston against the NL... the enemy of my enemy is my friend. so i've always liked the Sox. especially when they let the 86 championship roll thru their legs.

What recent Dodger teams have taken away from me is the idea that a definitive part of the Dodgers has always been how... smart... they've always looked, turned out in perfectly tailored uniforms, maybe with a crease down the sleeve even.

A gargantuan or mis-shapen or tattooed or hair-died or hair-customized or douchey-facial-hair guy has NEVER looked good in a Dodger uniform --- Eric Gagne and Jose Lima always looked like misplaced Diamondbacks or something --- but now they all seem to have outsized bodies and looky-me personalities. There's a place for all that, but it just seems somehow wrong wrapped up in a Dodger uniform.

If you watch sports news on a Connecticut station, you don't know that any team other than the Sawks is still playing.

The Dodgers winning the LCS would be yet one more example of the positive change that can happen when you dump your shitty owner with legal troubles in favor of people with actual cash to spend. Plus the Cardinals have a couple of recent titles.

The rooting choice is clear, however unsavory it may be.

And that's why I hate them. Bud forced them to do that. Meanwhile he bent over backwards to keep the Wilpons in place, even lending them money in their hour of need. We're in a trap from which there is no escape.

I'm rooting for the Dodgers, so that the long-suffering people-who-generally-couldn't-give-a-shit-'bout-baseball can finally know a weekend or so of pure, car-flag-waving joy-- taking smartphone pictures at the mall with a guy who some other guy told them is Yasiel Puig, or loudly pretending they know who Paco Rodriguez is-- before the next tween-star-DUI or half-hour of drizzle or Carmageddon.

Go Dodgers!

One upside of the Dodgers winning is more games called by Vin Scully.

This live one won't be rooting for the spawn of Satan either.

Maybe if the Mets had better owners ... if they played like a team with all the natural advantages of being the NY National League franchise should play like, they'd be in this NLCS instead of one of those other teams. I know where I'm aiming my hate.

As I was last year, rooting for the Cardinals to get Carlos Beltran a ring so that it augments his "Hall of Fame" case and ultimately adds a third* Met hat in the Museum.

That was beautiful. Wifey asked me why I was laughing so hard.
Thanks for the link.

Love it. It really does explain how the whole "Greatest Fans in Baseball" thing is passive aggressive and done for humblebrags.

Don't believe that for a second.

It was pretty well documented that MLB provided assistance (ie. loans) to the Willpons; and that they refused to assist Frank McCourt as he attempted to negotiate a new TV rights deal which was key to his maintaining control of the Dodgers.

They not only refused to assist McCourt, but actively forced his hand.

Where is the trap from which there is no escape documented?

Of course they were worse off and the McCourts were actively missing payroll dates and hiding money and other nefarious things, like cutting security.

Hate the Dodgers (Fuck you forever, Walter O'Malley). Don't hate the Cardinals. You can't hate everyone who's not a Met. Well, you can, but once the Mets are not in the picture, you can't. I was rooting for the Pirates, but will now go for the Cardinals. And probably root for them in the Series. I like the Tigers, but find it hard to root for a team in a league that doesn't play real baseball.

And, fogey that I am, I tend to like the old, pre-Milwaukee Brave teams.

Ah. We are in agreement as to that particular point. I might submit that the Dodgers are the example that proves escape is entirely possible.
