batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Matt Harvey's Interview With Dan Patrick Got Real Awkward Real FastMets phenom Matt Harvey was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show this morning, and he was not the ideal interview subject. Patrick wanted to talk about Harvey's elbow injury and the looming possibility of Tommy John surgeryyou know, baseball stuffbut all Harvey wanted to do was be a pitchman for some dumb phone thing called Qualcomm. I mean, he really wanted [to] be a good pitchman.Either Qualcomm is paying Harvey $10 billion to be their spokesman, or he just doesn't realize that "pitchman" and "shill" don't mean the same thing. This gives us a good idea for a new Jimmy Fallon bit, though: Matt Harvey stopping people on the street and explaining to them the wisdom of investing in gold. link to videoMatt sure does say the word "obviously" a lot.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Obviously.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Qualcomm is really great.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Wait - he's not having the TJ surgery...?Oy.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I have to say, this is absolutely douchey. I bet Mark McGwire is kicking himself. He probably would have loved to have been able to use the "I'm here to talk about Qualcomm" line when he was testifying before Congress.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Christ, he's some sort of wanker....
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 This is the downside of the Buck-and-Byrdie trade. We suddenly have a paucity of play-the-game-the-right-way cops.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Holy crap, that was terrible. Someone steered him very wrongly there.

Wright is a better example actually, got into some hot water for okaying a quickie on-the-spot TV spot for a charlatan several years back and has been much more judicial with his public image since...that ESPN "fashion" spread with Reyes not withstanding!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 What've I been saying since this punk first arrived? Doooooooooooooooosh.Hopefully this helps bring an end to corporations using dumb jocks to sell products.Yeah.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Matts a grouch in the morning. Sounded like he didn't even have his coffee yet. Obviously he has stock in Qualcomm.Well, you can go to the bathroom and keep current score, but can you actually score a game on that thing?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Matt Harvey ?@MattHarvey33 7mBeen an exhausting couple of days. Apologies to @DanPatrick and @QualcommMatt Harvey ?@MattHarvey33 7mIve had a few rough outings on the mound, that was a rough outing on the radio this morning...
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Well, don't feel bad Matt. Obviously interviews from home are exhausting. All that sitting, holding the phone up (your handlers don't do that for you?) to your ear. Next time see if you can do one without opening your mouth.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I guess that's what happens when Mike Francesa cozies up to you. You come across as an asshole on the radio.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Rubin tweets reason Harvey apologized for douchey behavior was because he was "being rude to media when fans could see/hear it," strongly implying our phenom is a phenomenal dick out of camera and microphone range.
