duan Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 In a delightful twist I was able to watch this doing the morning feed rather then sloping off to bed after 3/4 innings of the night one. I could do this west coast trip 16 inning games every time no problem. It'd be handy for me to be honest.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Kudos to those of you still posting at 4am etc.....
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 A win today, combined with a Cubs loss to the Angels, would mean the Mets pass two teams and catch a third. It'd be one of those days that cause everybody to think big things, if only briefly.I never thought I'd say this, but... Go, Joe Blanton!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I got 3 hours of sleep. I feel like shit.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Ugh. Three hours sleep and I'm on the phone with a guy in Bahrain trying to talk him through loading data onto his system from six of the fifteen DVDs whose labels he sent me photocopies of. My brain is cramping.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Four hours sleep, and I feel pretty solid. It's all about that fourth hour, folks.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 good job staying up. I didn't make it. I don't know if this means I'm worn out, getting old, or simply a bad fan.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Glad I didn't stay up. Saw the first inning and figured the Mets would have difficulty winning. Went to bed. No regrets. That's what Mets Fast Forward on SNY is for.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I announced I was done in the 14th I believe and briefly snoozed through a half-inning on the couch. But try as they might the Mets just can't put me to sleep.
Bunt the First Two Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 good job staying up. I didn't make it. I don't know if this means I'm worn out, getting old, or simply a bad fan.No, that's great. There's something really sweet about nodding-off in the of a hopeful limbo of lemon-sugariness of a tied game in extra innings. The misery is in falling asleep down 7-1 and dispirted. It was upon nodding off during an extra inning game from the coast years ago that first got me writing on this site. I realized I woke up with the tingly excitement like the game was still going on and I was still in the midst of it. I logged on with no intention of posting and then this suddenly came out in one shot.Call Me Up in MetlandTuning in to a late west coast gameIt went to extra framesAfter midnight the game got tenserI love those kind of gamesIm not as young as used to be, manI went and fell asleepI woke up on the shores of MetlandMy guide was Danny HeepDanny grinned under royal blue skiesWith puffy cumulous cloudsHe looked at me with his royal blue eyesAnd said that I should be proudFor few mere mortals can walk in MetlandThe stars they must alignAs we stood there upon the beach strandI knew the moment was mineClimbing over the great Met MountainsSailing over the wide Met SeaTossing coins into blue Met fountainsDanny Heep and meLindsey Nelson was mayor of MetlandBob Murphy was his Chief ClerkPete Flynn had shaped us a green horizonAnd Seaver wasnt a jerkMookie stole everything in MetlandBut then he gave it all backFor crime was scarce under Chief Ralph KinerMetlanders never knew lackWe rode in Gil Hodges golden trolleyEach stop was named Willets PointDanny, how do we know where to get off?He told me that was the pointYo la tengo was code in MetlandIt meant both hi and good-byeWhen I realized we all spoke StengeleseI think I started to cryClimbing over the great Met MountainsSailing over the wide Met SeaTossing coins into blue Met fountainsDanny Heep and meMet royalty, they were all around meIn home whites with orange and blueTheyd left behind every imperfectionAnd they were handsome and trueSasser threw throw without double pumpingIn this Olympian spherePacella had the control of BuddhaMatsuis vision was clearWe lumbered over Ventura HighwayI waded through a Rheingold streamDoug Flynn strummed on a country guitarIt only deepened my dreamEd Charles read me a mystic balladAs I sat at his feetCream and Strawberries served by DarrylI ate and life was completeClimbing over the great Met MountainsSailing over the wide Met SeaTossing coins into blue Met fountainsDanny Heep and meDanny talked some philosophy with meAnd we played us some catchBut as we traded turns hitting fungoesI asked what strings were attachedI guess I struck on the magic questionDanny grinned as he spokeHe told of Metlands ephemral natureThe Brigadoonian jokeThe land would fade as each game concludedUntil the next games first pitchMortals must leave 'fore the cosmic curtainIts like someone throws a switchFor Metland lives in the chance of each gameIts in the hope in your heartSince it aint over until its overThe isle remained on the chartClimbing over the great Met MountainsSailing over the wide Met SeaTossing coins into blue Met fountainsDanny Heep and meI knew that soon I would leave sweet MetlandThat I might never returnI paid respects to their Queen Joan PaysonSwapped jokes with Capra and HearnI climbed into a magic top hatDave Kingman set it afloatWhen I woke up, I was back in KansasNo sign of water or boatI wondered if I had dreamed the whole thingBeen there with Gooden and SwanAnd if I tuned in to find the score outWould the island be gone?Went to bed with a foolish notionId give Metland a reprieveId leave the score for the morning paper'Til then I gotta believeClimbing over the great Met MountainsSailing over the wide Met SeaTossing coins into blue Met fountainsDanny Heep and me
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I watched and then listened to every pitch except for when I dozed briefly ... IN THE TOP OF THE 16th!!!!. I then woke up in time to hear the final outs so I knew THAT they had won although not HOW.So this morning I checked in with the DVR as I had flicked on the Record feature when I moved to radio-land around inning 13, and it turns out that there is an unexplained five-minute or so gap in the recording ... COVERING THE TOP OF THE 16th!!!!. The recording then picked up again exactly where I had woken up to Howie & Josh!!!Somehow, someway, the DVR and my consciousness synchronized their naps at the exact same time in different rooms. So I guess they won, huh?
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Much respect to you peeps who stayed with it....hell, I live in the Bay Area, have no work today and STILL couldn't make it past the 13th. Sheesh.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Called it quits after Crawford robbed Byrd to end the top of the 11th.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Wow... those of you who stayed up are waaaaayyyy more dedicated than I am. Even in the height of my fandom (mid to late 1980's) I wouldn't have stayed up that late for a game on a work night. When the Mets were playing late playoff games in Phoenix in 1999, I videotaped the game and watched it in the morning before I went to work. I guess I'm one of those people who has an easier time getting up early than staying up late.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Had my two cocktails and sacked out in the fourth inning or so. Many hours before the resolution.
