Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 According to Uniwatch. I liked them. Here's the link to all of them: http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/16228/first-look-new-mlb-batting-practice-caps
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Very nice. Probably "inspired" by the fact the O's new cap was the 2nd best selling cap in the league last season. Either that or Jethro has been scouring MBTN for marketing ideas.Edit: I see the Reds have followed suit. Texas and Toronto = revolting.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 If the side and back of the top are grey I've had that hat for over a year already. One of my favorite these days.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I'm really surprised that the Braves would go there.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Ccowgill12 "@gomets20: @Ccowgill12 did u c the new mets batting practice cap with mr met on it" I haven't.. but I cant wait to wear it.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Mr. Met looks like he is running to God's waiting room on that thing.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Isn't the big guy usually depicted running right to left?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 That's the direction he was heading on the cover of the 1975 scorecard. (My official source for Mr. Met action shots.)

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Long live the Collins! One could do worse than the Braves' screaming Indian. We don't know what he's screaming about. He's not nearly the caricature that the Cleveland guy is.The tomahawk chop is another matter.

The tomahawk itself would look fine and we don't need the chop.I LOVE the Mets hat. Will definitely be buying one.Orioles still have the best hat. There are some real boring ones that I can't imagine will inspire any sales too, like Cleveland.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 "Squatchee" ... so that dot on the top of the hat that CF hates so much when it's the wrong color actually has a name?Learn something new every day.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Don't make me go find that jewish chief wahoo picture from last time this came up..I'd like to see it. Can you please post it ?I looked but only found this: Edit: It's ok, I think I found it.

I think it's important to look at this with some degree of nuance.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I think his name is the distasteful aspect.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I didn't know the screaming guy had a name. If he shares the name Nok-a-homa with the wardancing mascot, then I certainly agree.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I don't think "Braves" is as bad as "Indians" (And "Redskins" is a whole other thing.)Indians brands an entire ethnic group, as the cartoon suggests. Braves seems like a role within the group. That said, I wouldn't have resurrected that logo. Seems to invite trouble for no good reason, and, well, it wasn't that good of a logo the first time the team used it.I love the Mr. Met cap, but I've yet to have a batting practice cap fit well. They are either way too loose, or the elastic gives me a headache. And it seems like they tend to be somewhere in the middle between a unstructured fashion cap and a traditional cap, looking kind of lumpy. If this was shaped like a traditional game cap, I'd be into it.

Will be more modeled after the 5950 instead of the 3530 or whatever it was called. i.e. the traditional game cap.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Let's experiment with the short bills and the loose rolling seams of the Cobb era:

The story about the Tigers' caps was a big hit on our website yesterday.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Screaming indian may not make it past the catalog page.Word Im hearing through the grapevine is that last weeks ESPN column on MLBs new BP caps generated so much controversy and backlash against the Braves screaming Indian design that the team may end up switching to another cap logo. If that happens, expect MLB to issue lots of revisionist-history talking points about how the Indian design was just one option we were exploring and that it was in development but never finalized and that the Braves simply opted to go in another direction or some such. But take it from me: That design was (and, for now, still is) good to go. As of today, its listed in the MLB Style Guide. If the Braves ultimately abandon it, itll be because they responded to the backlash, period. Which, of course, is precisely what they should do. Heres hoping.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 His description is bullshit, or what he's describing?
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The apparent double standard is bullshit. This is not an issue which easily lends itself to partial acceptance or grandfathering; either deny the use of all Native American logos or keep schtum. While Cleveland has spaced itself (somewhat) from Chief Wahoo, it still retains its use presumably because it is consistently one of the highest-selling caps. But the Braves cannot benefit from a less offensive logo, because....
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I don't know, I just don't see a yelling brave in the same light as a smiling goofball. If we continue on this logic, we're getting to the point where all humanoid nicknames are wrong. Maybe they are, but I think we're heading there when it's not necessarily where we intend to end up. Is it?
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I've often considered writing to Michigan State questioning the stereotypical depiction of my ancestors.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 When they call you in to apologize, make sure you don't order the roast duck with the mango salsa. That's a de facto capitulation right there.
