Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Douchey mulleted giant with tattoos on neck. Doesn't really have closer stuff.Deal pending physical, according to the Internets
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Actually dumped the long hair a year ow two ago - back when Keith was calling him a 'Wookie' (or however you spell that).I was hoping to avoid idiots with neck tattoos but that's just a silly personal preference.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 ...Watch your head on the doorway please!I wanted the Mets to get this guy 5 or 6 years ago... Is he still any good?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Up there as tallest Met ever?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Jon Heyman#mets working to acquire another reliever in addition to rauch. Also have multi-player trade in works
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 So we lose Beltran, Rodriguez and Reyes and now have Jon Rauch.I love this new philosophy where we get rid of good players and replace them with guys who suck.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 This is how Expos fans must have felt with this sort of wheeling and dealing in the bargain basement.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Now we have to sign Chris Young so we can stand Young and Rauch back to back to see who's the tallest Met ever. I'd pose Young and Rauch with Herrera's head poking out from behind the two of them. And the midgets' heads poking out from behind Herrera.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Heyman saying mets Mets are talking about the Giants about Pagan.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'd take Bumgartner off their hands for His Immaculate Beardness.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 In a pinch, he can also throw lefty.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Well, we finally got Jon Rauch - about 5 years too late.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Unfortunately I agree with Valadius. But having seven guys in the pen who are at least capable, even if none of them are exceptional, will be a significant improvement over the last two months of this past season.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I assumio this is a major league dealio.Any relation to Bob Rauch?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I can't remember how to pronounce his name. I'm thinking it's "Rowsh" but I'm not sure. (With the "row" rhyming with "cow" and not with "low")

(With the "row" rhyming with "cow" and not with "low")I always prefer to rhyme it with crotch, but I'm a little juvenile that way. You're probably right.
Guest attgig Guests Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I think this has to be the weakest move of the day. a closer for 6.5 mil a year is fine. i can understand WHY you would trade pagan for torres & ramirez. But a middle reliever (I'd think Ramirez is a better setup option than Rausch) at 3.5 mil seems a little steep. sure he has closing experience, but he wasn't really good at it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 We'll see what the market says his peers are going for. At least there's some redundancy.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Hererra at 5'6" and Rauch at 6'11" would give the Mets the shortest and tallest active major-leaguers, and presumably the all-time greatest height difference between two teammates.

dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 That obviously doesn't include Eddie Gaedel and any of his teammates..

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 And Dotel became a Tiger a week or so back for $3 million plus an option.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 That was my point. They're both better pitchers who signed for less. (Or the same, more or less, in Dotel's case.)
Guest attgig Guests Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 exactly. I would've dug either of those two, especially Dotel.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 According to the snooze today, Rauch finally passed his physical exam and is a member of the Mets.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Although Saito does turn 42 before the season starts and is coming off an injury-marred season with all of 27 innings pitched. At worst I think we're probably splitting hairs here.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
