Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 For whom shall you root?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I am rooting for the Giants. I think they have the pitching not only to beat Philly but to take it to the MFYs or the Rays/Rangers.Having said that, and having had time this October to genuflect on baseball, I realized that I'd far prefer a Phillies WS win to a MFY one. As obnoxious as the Philly fans are, I know very few of them up here in the Cuse, and those I do know are generally friendly and good natured fans. The MFY fans I know, locally and online, are really just dicks for the most part. But, in the short term, go Giants!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Rooting for the Giants and I agree with the Gentleman from Syracuse.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 The Giants. Because they're not the Phillies.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Everyone except Zvon will probably pick the Giants.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I picked the Phillies.(Waiting for the booing to die down)I think they can best represent the NL in the World Series.Yeah, SF has good pitching. But IMO they have just enough to lose a lot of WS games 2-1 and 1-0.That team just can't hit.The Phillies have just as much good pitching, and, gasp, a potent offense.Sorry, Pholks. I'm rooting for the Phillies to win, and then positively smoke their AL opponent in the WS.Then I'll happily go back to rooting against them next year.LAter
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I would have rooted for the Braves in a "go NL" spirit.Fuck the Phillies. Fuck them hard and sloppy with the same dick with which you fuck the MFYs. Go anyone else.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 I used to root exclusively National League in the World Series, but I stopped doing that in 1985. Since then I root for whichever team I dislike the least, regardless of league. So the only way I'd root for Philadelphia in the World Series is if they're playing the Yankees. At this point, I think I'm hoping that the World Series is Giants-Rangers.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I guess I'm not as anti-Philly as most here seem to be - particularly the south Jersey/Penn living crowd.I still voted Giants just for something different, haven't won in over a half-century, yadda, yadda. But if the Phils win I'm not going to cringe and will happily root for them over the Yanx who won the other day while not even playing when the move to game 5 assured them that both David Price & Cliff Lee would out of the running until at least game 3 of the next round.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 I can see that. If I didn't live in the Philadelphia suburbs, I'd be more ambivalent about them. (That's probably why I never hated the Braves.) But when you're surrounded by Phillie mania, you just want it to end quickly.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Go Giants. Win one for San Francisco at last.

MFY and MFP fans run rampant around here.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I root for the Giants. However, I fear it may be in vain as the dreaded Phils-Yankee World Series rematch looms in the background.

I don't know the answer to the second question, but I'm betting it was before Babe Ruth came along.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 The first one is easy: 1977-1978 Yankees vs. Dodgers. The second one is much harder... I'll guess New York Giants and Philadelphia Athletics some time in the 1910's.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Dodgers/MFYs of 1977-1978 is correct.Giants/Athletics is incorrect.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Cards-A's, 1930s?
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 As v. Cubs (turn of 30s???)
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Cubs & Tigers at the dawn of time.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Voted Giants, though with no conviction. They're not the Phillies is enough reason for me.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Cardinals - Athletics, 1930-31 is correct.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I am a golden god. There was absolutely no chance involved there. Also, go Giants. Some runs will help.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Jeezus, say it ain't so, Seo
