Season actually doesn't end just because they're not going to win the World Series. I can still watch them and try and catch a win or two before the summer ends.Don't be that guy. I know you're sad... I'll come down to the beltway and give you a hug. It's all good, hugs are free!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 As Van the Man said " There'll be days like this"

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Of course Fman's hug would be a knee to the balls followed by an elbow to the back of the head....that's free too.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I'm bummed but the season ain't over. And F-Man is right. If I judged the Mets by if they made the post season or not I would have quit this team a long, long time ago. There is still stuff that can be accomplished, and stuff. Our chances of making the post?Took a nose dive tonight. A real big stinkin shitty nosedive. But we are not completely out of it yet.I think the team was just waiting to bum me out before they make their stretch run.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 It's certainly growing increasingly likely that I won't be worrying about trying to get score updates during my 10/10 wedding. And David Wright WOULD able to RSVP yes..

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 He'll probably also be fired at the end of the season. Few heads would roll as efficiently as Mr. Met's.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Were things to come to that, you could probably do worse than paying Hessman as a replacement; guy's got a N-O-G-G-I-N.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Long as we're trying to beat the traffic to the postmortems... are the team problems borne of not understanding marginal utility... or simple faulty evaluation? (I'm not sure I love Andriola's analogy here, but it's useful as a jumpoff for discussion.)Lets say you are building a dam, and you want to make sure this is the best dam thats ever been built. You gather your logs, get some help from friendly beavers, and in two weeks have put together a pretty fine dam if you can say so yourself. Then, when the river starts to actually run strong, you begin to see that some pieces of wood arent that great. But you know those holes are there; theyre always going to be there. Not every piece of wood can be equal. The foundation, the best pieces of wood, the core of your dam, is what makes it a great dam. The other logs are just inevitable imperfections that, even if they are mended, wont ever make that big of a difference. So, needing to strengthen your dam somehow, you push the strong logs of your dam. And you push them and push them until you cant take it anymore; but youre dam still isnt as good as you want it to be. You give it a serious look-over. No, its not the minor logs that are serving their purpose. Its not your building skills. Its the damn supposed best logs not living up to their expectations. So you rip them out and try to get even stronger pieces of wood. Before you know it, youre out of the logging business and trying to get a senior scouting job with some National League club.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 It's not about the post-season, exactly. For me, rooting for a .500 team means i have an even chance of tuning in to a win or a loss for any given game (putting aside the quality of the opposition for a moment). And since i have come to a point in my life where the losing causes greater pain than the winning causes joy, it is an unacceptable level of play for me to watch more than just barely enough to continue checking in on them from time to time. The risk / reward ratio needs to be higher for me to continue watching regularly, and certainly higher to go to the expense and inconvenience of attending. I'm not happy about this situation, but its the way it is for me.
