Beats the heck out of my one-fer (1-6? 1-7?).

Wait... if you're 1-0, why haven't you started more game threads? The malaise/Ollie's silly beard and intransigence/Bay being sucky is Wolf's fault! FIRE WOLF!

Please God...Let them fire Jerry soon..[/quote:3jqd8708]

Hakuna Matata. It's not likely that Jerry will manage any important games from here on in, and if that proves to be the case, then he'll be gone at the end of the season.

Yeah , I can't see Manuel getting fired now. The time to fire him in hopes of saving the season has passes IMO.

Valentine's first tenure began with 31 games left in the season. Just saying.

Well in that case please call him and tell him he has 20+ more games to work with this season.

Point taken though.

My guess is that if Manuels fired at the end of this season, Valentine wont replace him, even if Bobbys available. Hes too dynamic for the Wilpons. Too opinionated. Too strong. The Wilponsll hire some bland manager wholl be happy just to have the job and wont say squat even if management sticks him with 4 Frenchys and 2 Ollie Perezs.

I fear this will be the case, it's a bleak outlook though.

Supposedly Bobby's issue with Florida was that he wanted more control, almost like being the GM, too. So hiring Bobby would be a sign that Omar's being weakened, which supposedly was already happening with the assistant taking on more duties.

Doesn't Omar have something like two more years under contract?

Firing Jerry now would mean they're paying two managers (again).

Jerry is under contract through this year, plus the club holds an option for 2011.

Omar is under contract through 2012, plus the club holds options for 2013 and 2014.

--

I expect (and probably would demand) that both will be fired if the team does not make the playoffs this year.

Davidoff had a live chat today , got to it late but he speculates that Manuel will stay the remainder and that Omar will be reassigned within the org.

I guess if you are looking for both a GM and a manager you hired the GM first?, you can't hire a GM and then tell him who to hire can you?

Tongue in cheek, but Omar may already have been reassigned.

So Jerry probably gets to ride the year out and can leave hand in hand with Omar.

I do question the commitment of ownership to build a winner and I do hope I am wrong.

Fman>>>> tongue in cheek cue

Ricco and Backman.

Book it.

Jerry not renewed is all. Omar kicked upstairs.

KevinTowersKevinTowersKevinTowers... Josh ByrnesJoshByrnesJoshByrnes?

Towers is with the MFY now days....his work for the Padres is paying dividends now . What has Josh Byrnes done to illicit a hard on from you LWFS.

Dan O'Dowd , Dombrowski are names I would like to see, it's all for naught though as I agree with bucket up there on Ricco and Wally.

More of a tingle than a raging boner. He hadn't done a terrible job moves-wise for the most part: some of the trades he's caught flak about, including the Quentin trade and this winter's Jackson-Scherzer-Kennedy bid'ness, have already turned out a lot better for the franchise than most critics had expected; and he has proven himself willing to make the big short-term move, and to do it in a way that doesn't kill them financially going forward (only their version of the Johan trade blew up in their faces a little bit, since guys like Brett Anderson, Carlos Gonzalez and Dana Eveland have already contributed at the major-league level). His patching together of a rotation behind Webb and Haren has been pretty solid, relying mostly on cheap, controllable fresh-from AAA strike-throwers and affordable 1-year deals (Garland).

That Webb got hurt and the team failed to win after his win-now moves is a mark of bad luck, not bad management. I think he gets some of the priorities/values of modern-day team management in a way some "old-school baseball guys" don't.

(Then again... he did leave Uggla unprotected in the Rule V draft. So... really, it would just kill me if they didn't go outside the organization for the next guy. Because... Ricco? Really? What's the point, if he's been so involved in the architecture of this admittedly poorly-constructed squad?)

There may not be a ton of use of firing Jerry now (assuming they've mailed it in and don't think anyone would do a better job. I disagree, but whatever), but I think the sooner you get a new GM in here, the better. (I'm not 100% convinced Omar's not just as good as anyone else they'd bring in anyway, or he's fully in control enough to evaulate in that way. ) But either way, Omar, now that the trade deadline is over, should be let go if they're going to let him go. Let the new guy get a little adjusted to the team, see what pieces (Jauss maybe? Shines seems like a good coach?) are worth keeping, get a sense for the minor league talent and get aquainted with the Wilpons a little more and strategy and etc before interviewing managers.

You guys can trash the manager and the GM all you want.
My complaints in regards to them are trivial.
#1 on my wish list is the Wilpons sell the team.

A new owner(s) and the dominoes start falling up.

Seems to be (a) rather wishful thinking to me, and (B) highly unlikely.

ESPN game tonight for youse outta towners.
Or at least it'll be a partial game telecast as they work it around all the cut-ins for ARod's ABs.

Plus, there's no way of knowing whether any T.O. news will pop up.

The Mets are paying $2.21 for this game -- I wonder when the last time Johan Santana started a game at those odds. (As tempting as it to put some $$$ on them, I vowed not to bet on them for the rest of the season and I'm gonna to stick to that).
