DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 For Gil Meche, sez Ken Rosenthal.Garbage in, garbage out.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Is that done cos Heyman says Francoeur will go too and Guillen comes back with Meche, Castillo part of talks too.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 holy mackeral. Meche used to be good.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I'm not sure it's happened yet. If it has, Rosenthal seems to be the only one who knows about it.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Yes, this should be "Ollie to KC?" not "Ollie to KC".Here's what Ken Rosenthal is saying:Ken Rosenthal wrote: The Mets and Royals are discussing a trade that would result in an exchange of Mets left-hander Oliver Perez for Royals righty Gil Meche and possibly more. The names under discussion, major-league sources say, include outfielder Jeff Francoeur and second baseman Luis Castillo from the Mets and reliever Kyle Farnsworth and outfielder Jose Guillen from the Royals. To be clear: Those names are in play, but might not all be in the same proposals. A trade, if it happens, will not necessarily be 3-for-3.Perez and Meche have exactly the same amount of money remaining on their contracts the pro-rated portion of $12 million this season and $12 million next season. The contracts of Francoeur and Farnsworth also match up almost evenly. Francouer is earning $5 million this season and eligible for arbitration next season. Farnsworth is earning $4.5 million this season with a $5.25 million club option for next season.Guillen is owed just over $4 million on the final year of his contract. Castillo is owed just over $8 million on his deal, which runs through next season.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 The Greatest Trade Rumor in Baseball HistoryA rundown of the relevant parties: * Oliver Perez, owed $24/2: Arguably the worst pitcher in baseball, Perez has Steve Blass Disease, minus the connotation of once having good control. Perez allows more homeruns and walks at a per-nine-inning pace than Cliff Lee will allow in the next 5 years. * Luis Castillo, owed $12/2: Castillo's only skill is plate discipline. After losing most of the joint function in both of his knees, his other two abilities, hitting infield singles and fielding, became impossible. * Jeff Francoeur, owed 1/$5 (arb. eligible): Despite consistently being the worst rightfielder in baseball for several years, Mets fans are convinced he would be make a good fourth outfielder on a championship team. He's practically Endy Chavez's cousin: no plate discipline, no speed, mediocre power, average fielder, average contact hitter. * Gil Meche, owed 1/$12: Meche was a pretty good pitcher until ex-Royals' manager Trey Hillman made him throw 200 pitches a game starting in 2008. Now, his contract isn't the only number he and Ollie have in common: * Screen_shot_2010-07-25_at_6 Screen_shot_2010-07-25_at_6 * Kyle Farnsworth, owed $10/2 (option in '11): T3h Pr0f3ss0r is the only useful player in this bunch. He throws about 100 mph in no particular direction, which gives him about 50/50 chance of throwing a strike on any given pitch or having a good year in an particular season. * Jose Guillen, owed 2/$24: Way overpaid, certainly not a starter on a team serious about contending, and prone to the occasional Iron Sheik-esque rant, Jose Guillen is certainly better than Jeff Francoeur. The funniest part about this whole proposed-trade is that, if it happened straight-up three-for-three, the Mets would probably be the winners. Winners, though, only in the sense that they'd have cleared some bad contracts in preparation of building next year's roster. If you bother to consider next year's payroll obligations--Bay for $18M, Beltran for $20M, Rodriguez for $12M, Cora for $2M--it's apparent that having a few extra million or ten was never this team's problem. This trade would just be two organizations flaunting their ignorance to the rest of the baseball world, taking their three biggest failures each and putting them on a pedestal. I'm just worried they might try to swap urinal cakes too, but hit a snag when Kauffman's are discovered to come from a cheaper distributer. http://www.amazinavenue.com/2010/7/25/1587520/the-greatest-trade-rumor-in
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Three whipping boys in one trade package? Really?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Meche is on the 60 day DL. That might be the best part of the proposed deal.

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 The Amazin Avenue post is hilarious. This would be the biggest "challenge" trade in MLB history.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Seriously, though, juicers, douchebags, meatheads, manager-baiters, ex-Yankees, ex-Braves, Pedro attackers. The Mets could win this trade, but this would be one hell of a toxic package.

Wait, he already said the funniest part was up there... then this! Ha Ha! ROFL. Urinal cakes! LOL!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I would do it.Meche strugled early this year, but seems to have found "it" and has pitched pretty well lately.Farnsworth throws harder than any Mets current reliever except for Parnell. And the trade of Castillo paves the way for the development of Tejada. It seems so one-sided in favor of the Mets that I think KC saw "NY" on the uniforms and had a flashback to the days (50s - 60s) when they were called a Yankee farm team. (I know, before expansion, they were.)Later
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 (edited) Omar utterly amazes me -- rather than trying to make a trade that would legitimately add value to this ailing ball-club, instead he focuses on swapping garbage. Haren's gone, the Phillies are looking at Oswalt, the Tigers at Dunn, and Omar's negotiating with the Royals for frigging Gil Meche and Kyle Farnsworth. Fuck me. Edited July 25, 2010 by Guest

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 If they're seriously considering trading Castillo, I think it does signal that they're virtually giving up this year. Tejada is just a significant downgrade on a team that's struggling to score runs. And if that were the case I'm just as willing to let Ollie have a shot next spring as Meche. Not sure Guillen has any real value to the Mets either.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Aviles may be useful. Kalahue and Gordon, they seem to be down on.Instead... well, it's interesting, in the way that a car wreck can be-- absorbing when taken in passing, but you don't want to be one of the parties directly involved. If you think Sheffield in left was fun... wait'll you see Guillen. (Ditto for his buying being a part-time player/bench weapon.)
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Leave Guillen/Castillo out of it. Perez/Francoeur for Meche/Farnsworth. I'd probably do that.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Any form of this is garbage in, garbage out. If sends Ollie out wrap it up and bowtie it.I have no problem with Tejada learning on the job.
