Howard strikes out swinging to end the game in Philadelphia. Marlins win 2-0 over the Phillies.

Okay, I'm getting old and all. What's up with the whipped cream in the face? Is this one of those things that kids are doing these days like Lady Gaga and the youtubes?

That was just outstanding.

Entire team waited an extra 30 seconds in the dugout before the top of the 9th so that Niese came out first to a huge cheer. Many fans standing for the whole ninth inning.

Angel Pagan was again the pie-in-the-face delivery man for the live, on-the-field postgame hero interview which I am an unabashed fan of.

Jonathon Niese game scores a 91. Only four 2010 game scores surpass Niese's one-hitter. Niese even outscores Ubaldo's (6 BB's) no-no (88 GSC) and Galarraga's imperfect perfecto (88 GSC).

My sixth Met one-hitter in person. My second triple play hit into. My ninth consecutive win. I see some things, all right. I believe in hoMe Field Advantage.

It wasn't "rocking," per Fran Healy, but I got a sense of Shea at Citi as Niese pitched the ninth. Last time that happened when I instigated a welcome chant of AN DEE GREEN! in a blowout that was going against us. This was more fun than that. What's the difference between a one-hitter and a two-hitter when a no-hitter hasn't been possible for six innings? Greater than you'd think.

What a great game!

How nice that it wasn't defined by the triple play.

Great work by Niese - he was a thing of beauty last night.

We have to get a contingent to show up at a Niese start in knightware, just to, you know, show we can be dorks too.

Would doing the same with a bunch of Hawkmen be too mean? Too obscure? Too... bare-shouldered?

During strike-outs we can say he's the Niese who says 'night.

It's a prank players have been pulling on other players every once in a while going back to about the time post-game TV interviews were invented.
It's just that in the last year or so they seemed to have become almost mandatory. The Yanx did after virtually every win last season which I guess gave them the universal stamp of approval even though it's the type of thing both the team and their apologists would have claimed was beneath their dignity just a few years earlier.

I think it's douchey. I'd rather see them hitting each other in the face with an oversized novelty rubber mallet. Or the nutkick.
