It's "Save Your Ass Day" at Digital Domain Online Porno Park, where Fernando Tatis (.091) and Frank Catalonotto (.143) also have gotten their knocks in. Mets lead 5-2.

When you look at him, you think, Geez, this guys so intense, I cant even talk to him, said Mets third-base coach Chip Hale. But when you really break it down, hes a guy who has a lot of passion for the game. Thats something people outside the game miss sometimes. They think players dont care? Well, Chris Carter cares.

He certainly seems to care. About what, I don't know.

(anyone interpret that Carter article as "teammates think he's a douchebag"?)

Yeah, I was gonna write that before I saw your post. The article reminded me of a Bill James quote about Dave Hollins, I believe, where he mentioned that "intense" tended to be sportswriter code for "jerk."

Waitaminnit!
I thought "intense" was baseball talk for "White".
Or is that "gritty"?
I sometimes get them mixed up.

Ahhhh.
So that's why they called Pete Rose "intense".
Thanks for clearing that up.
But I never realized that Joe DiMaggio was Japanese.
LOL!

That list is pretty close to accurate, though I imagine I've read Eddie Murray or Bob Gibson refferred to as "intense" on more than one occasion. By the time he reached the Mets, the euphemisms for Murray were less kind.

"Battlin'" = "Sadistic racist"

"Quiet" = "Doesn't Drink"

"Deeply Religious" = "Hates Baseball and Everything in It" or, alternately, "Terrified of Homos"

"Family Man" = "I Have a Crush on His Wife"

This reminds me of how to interpret descriptions of women by other women.

"fucking tramp" = Hot
"Ok looking, but a raging bitch" = Very Pretty
"My friend ____ is gorgeous" = Above average
"Cute" or "Pretty" = Below Average
"Very pretty face" = Fat
"Just a great person" = Ugly
"So sweet" = memorably ugly, probably fat too, will give you nightmares
"She's the best, I love her" = might be an alien
