The Uniform

2010 will be the 13th consecutive season where the Mets wear their snow white home unis with the black drop shadow, the black home/roads with "Mets" across the chest in script with drop shadows and the road grays with "New York" across the chest in gothic lettering, also with drop shadows.

Not counting commemorative patches and fabric changes, the 1965 Met uniform was the only other Met uniform to last as long as 13 seasons (1965-1977). There is no uniform in franchise history that the Mets wore for longer than 13 consecutive seasons.

I don't know this as well as I should but didn;t they introduce some new tweaks to the plackets of the home whites this year? Or was that just one of those things under discussion?

A: For shame, sir. FOR SHAME.

B: Placket tweaks? How much more can you do to buttonholes?

OE: I think I'm getting my grommets and my plackets mixed up.

Don't forget the addition of the cream pinstripes this year!

Doesn't seem like it's been 13 years for the snow whites. Wow.

That should read "1965 Met home uniform".

Adam Rubin tweets

Mets new off-white uniforms are all over clubhouse. "Key lime" one player termed the color.

I'm not sure I'd call them "green," exactly, but having seen them again recently in a Modell's... the pallor isn't exactly rally-inspiring.

Sigh.

Next year, the Mets black uniforms will set a franchise record for uniform longevity. Nice way to commemorate the team's 50th.

Buzz: on Black Uniforms, Blue Stripes

I was able to confirm an e-mail I got yesterday I believe he also e-mailed Shannon at Mets Police saying the Mets will be keeping the black uniforms next season, and might look to ditch the blue stripe running along the collar and down the center.

Ditching the blue trim on the alternate home jerseys (the non-pinstripe ones) was under consideration for this year as well but I guess the cream pinstripes was enough change. I dislike the alternate home jerseys but would dislike them even more if the blue trim was removed.

I would prefer all players wear stirrups than just those who choose to. It's a uniform!

But I also wonder if Carrasco would rock that look if everyone else did.

And I'm pretty sure the third-base ump agrees.

Waddayagonnado. They look less deplorable in a stirrup, and have a fun variation with the insignia.

And the solid orange insignia with no shadows on black is a rarity in Metville, perhaps because that's a straight-shot old Giants logo. Their black hats are wrong not just because they're black, but because they put that abominable blue-with-orange-shadow insignia in it, that just murders you with the black-and-royal clashing.

Are those actual stirrups or stirrup socks?

They look painted-on.

They'd look better blue.

They'd also look better with a nice, white/orange horizontal stripe, a la St. Loo.

Can they be worn or do they have to be rocked? The older players are a little concerned.

Uniwatch today reveals that he wore logo socks with the Pirates and another team, too. Much rather see this than another Nike logo.

When you're a DJ, they're rocked.

I like that note that they're in on Ioki below that.
