Black drop shadows are out!So now the Mets'll look even more ridiculous when they match their dropped drop shadow tops with the black caps with the neon electric NY logo. It's a half-assed move.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Adam Rubin wrote:Mets to unveil uniform changes WednesdayNovember, 11, 2011by Adam RubinThe Mets have called a news conference for next Wednesday to unveil uniform changes and other 50th-anniversary plans.Rumblings are the primary home uniform will be close to the 1960s version -- with pinstripes, a Mets script logo in blue and orange (and no black shadow) and blue hats. The black uniform tops should remain as an alternate jersey, but be worn only occasionally. The bright white jersey without pinstripes also should be around (also minus the black shadow on the lettering), but the pinstriped version should primarily be worn. The Mets also are expected to have a patch on the uniform commemorating the 50th anniversary -- basically the commonly used city skyline and "50th anniversary."Word is the bobbleheads in 2012 also may be past Mets greats. As we mentioned in Thursday's chat, Banner Day even may make a comeback, although that was just educated speculation and not guaranteed. No word yet on whether the blue cap will have a blue or orange button.I don't mind the orange, but if it were up to me, it would be blue.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I wonder how often we'll see the black unis with the orange drop shadow.I like the others.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 No numbers on the front? (NTTAWTT)
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 O's are going back to cartoon bird on their hats.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Wow. What comes around goes around. Maybe the Athletics will go back to the cartoon elephant.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Number on the front. (Note the 50th Anniversary patch.)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Nice, and the patch doesn't look like the Domino's logo.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Woo-hoo!Nice job all around. Banner Day, historical bobble heads, blue caps!Only thing I didn't like was hearing that there would be a patch on the back of the caps.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Colors remind me of the Padres .

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Per Michael Baron on Metsblog:New uniforms. Cream pinstripes are the primary. You will ONLY see the blue and orange caps in 2012. Black jerseys remains as an alternate (mostly on the road). 50th anniversary logo is on the sleeve and back of the cap. New BP jersey - blue and orange (like the Los Mets jerseys)Sweet!
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I like that. Would they wear blue caps with black jerseys? Doubt it.

Here's what their announcement says:The blue cap will be worn with the home pinstripes and white uniforms, and the road grey uniforms.I especially like the part about the blue cap and the grey road uniforms.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Saw it up close as modeled on the third baseman at press conference (and later during a few minutes of graciously provided blogger time). Looks good. As does he. As does Ike in alternate whites. (Duda was whisked away relatively quickly, but he wore the road grays well from a relative distance.)Black and blue cap has been retired. Enjoy your pension, weird combo.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I sometimes wonder what it takes to get some non-white guys at these fashion shows. But I guess the the only big league ones the Mets currently have under contract are in wintering in the their respective Caribbean homes. ngel Pagn maybe.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Beltran was at the 2010 holiday party. Reyes was the lead player among several who showed up to surprise school kids last winter.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I'd like to go to the holiday party, just not feeling justified to take a day off. :-(
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Oh, I know the Mets trot their non-white players to community events as best as they can. But as most teams' fashion shows are in November, they just seem to tend toward whiteness.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Don't recall a fashion show in recent years. The creamstripes were intro'd via press release.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 The full announcement. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111116&content_id=25983192&vkey=pr_nym&c_id=nymThey're going retro. But the best news to me is, Banner Day is Back!!!!YAYYYYYY!!Later
