FYI, this sums up my Dad's attitude about following baseball, just a few moments ago:

"So, when is the Yankee's final game? Next weekend?" and

"What time is the Met game? Tonight?"

1) No one knew there was even such a record before last week.
2) Gehrig never played in this stadium and vice versa. Lou's was raized down to the concrete 35 years ago.

I watched and noticed a few things. Willie getting a huge ovation. Like an innocent man being released from Met prison. Kay had to include the 'always a Yankee' line, or some such bullshit. When introducing Mantle, Sterling noted that Mick was the last player to win the Triple Crown. To hell with Frank Robby and Yaz I guess. They never called their home a cathedral.

In theory, there should be at least the removal of the last number for the postgame.
I think they've been tightlipped about it, but I like the idea of a cermony once all the games are complete.
