Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 One letter away. His time with the Mets was short. We had a Dan Murray ever so briefly.I do have two Mets home jerseys with "Murray" on the back from Eddie's brief and cranky tenure.I do, however, get the Iron Maiden lead guitarist and a jazz musician.

This player might well be known more for being a MFY great now though. Only one that fits the description is Coney.Constable Rogers .
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 my last name is an Ellis island invention, and the only ones who share it are related to me. And we are a notoriously unathletic branch of the evolutionary tree Therefore, there have been no major leaguers (nor minor leaguers for that matter) much less former Mets with whom I've shared my moniker. And, unless my son has athletic talents of which i am currently unaware, there is unlikely to ever be one.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I'm 0-for-all major sports as well.I'm still searching the Italian Baseball League, though.
Guest Mendoza Line Guests Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 My last name is 0-for-MLB.Two former Mets have my first name for a last name. They were Met teammates for about a month, and there was exactly one game in which both of them played for the Mets.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I think a lot of people here know my last name but there have been only two Major Leaguers in history that have shared it. None of them Mets. One of them everyone knows. The other I didn't remember until I looked it up.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Ahhh, not to mention an old coach out in San FranWell, he is a Sox here, but he was a Giant for a long time
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Or Sunny Kim, the old Expos pitcher, which is who CF probably meant.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I've had several major leaguers, although no Mets.Closest Met connection: a Hall-of-Famer has my last name as his first name although he uses common nickname. This HOFer has appeared at a few Met spring trainings in recent years to help the youngsters.

RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 No one with my last name ever appeared in any major league pro sport.About the only celebrity is an obscure actor. In the UK, however, it's the name of a cigarette brand that sponsors auto racing and soccer.
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 2 major leaguers with my last name, both played New York National League teams:The first had 3 AB's with the Giants in 1914 and was apparently nicknamed "Desperate".The second was a Mets pitcher that never panned out, throwing only 15 innings in his career during the HW Bush administration. He wound up with a career 2.30 ERA before he was traded for a player who was traded for Pedro Martinez.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 You guys got me. I got nothing on Firecracker.
