Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 W: ManuelL: ManuelS: Alomar, Sr.How about going after Werthe instead of Coste?Sounds like a dumb economic strategy anyhow.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Well, at least Wagner is making progress. Yesterday, he allowed them to tie the game. Today, he left the tying run on scoring position. Tomorrow....
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I turned this thing off at 10-2 and kept peeking in every once in a while ... and every time I did it was getting closer even though I missed all the scoring. Then I watched bottom 9.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Sorry, this was all my fault.I turned off the game at 10-1 and went to play videogames. I looked at the score online in the 9th and it was 10-7. . .I RUSH downstairs just in time to see Beltran's ill-advised throw and Wright pulling his glove away from it. . . but I helped Wagner get that last guy out. I pretty much was there only for the good stuff. Go me. I might not be able to sleep for a bit.

Guest KC Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 tmf: Matt Yaloff in the studio started off the post-game show by shouting, "I can't take it anymore!"<<<Cool, maybe he'll go away and take Maz with him next year.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I know people are really down on Wagner after last night, but he had a lot of "help" in making this game overly exciting and nervewracking. Both Armas and Heilman did theior part to screw up this game. Fortunately, the Mets held onto this one and were able to get the win. I just wish they could have hammered and embarrassed the Phillies after what had to be a demoralizing loss for them last night.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 The other Manuel is being asked about removing Chase Utley during the post game press conference.Says: "ugh,...we were down,..we were down 10-2,..ugh,..and Chase is pretty banged up, ..ugh, and I felt he ,ugh(sniff)..needed the rest".Swindle was in so long due to Rudy Seanez back spasms making him not available and ol' Charlie did not want to use Romero tonight.

The difference is that Amas and Heilman haven't trashed any of their Mets teammates in the press for not doing their jobs.If he's going to talk the talk, then he'd better damn well walk the walk.Walk being a figurative term, and not to mean bases on balls.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 A win is a win is a win I guess, but geez Louise that was a tough 9th inning to sit through.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 So it was ugly. So we all had to sweat through it.Who cares, we needed to win this game. And we did.So the Mets have a way to break your heart sometimes. Thats the way baseball is.They also have given us and baseball some of the most fantastic moments the game has ever seen over the years. And whether you put out positive optimism or negative pessimism we are all here for one reason.Cause we care deeply about this team, these major leaguers who bear our teams crest, these Metropoltans.I thank you all for your company.________________________is that too over the top?^
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Not at all!And no game is complete without Zvon graphics!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 On the radio, the three Mets announcers paid homage to a famous Bob Murphy quote after a similar Met win over the phillies. ("They won the damn game")My sentiments were reflected by a quote from the late great Pirate announcer Bob Prince, who said in similar circumstances, "We had 'em all the way". (Except I never refer to teams I root for as "we")Later
Guest Number 6 Guests Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I'm trying to keep things in perspective. The Mets took 3 out of 4 from the Phillies. But man, that was frustrating.

Classic, classic, classic. What's odd is that I remember that game as the Mario Diaz Game, since he's the guy who caught the final out.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 And as I read this morning, the Murphy game was against the Phils in Philly and the final score was 10-9.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Gary Cohen said that too last night. I think he said "In the immortal words of Bob Murphy, the Mets win the damn game."If I remember correctly, Gary is laughing his head off in the background when Bob mutters his famous line.
