metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 It's sadly come down to this , from David Lennon's blog]For what it's worth...Just saw Willie Randolph, Jerry Manuel and Sandy Alomar leave for the stadium from the team hotel. No sign yet of Rick Peterson or Tom Nieto. Stay tuned ...
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Lennon just posted again , says all the coaches are at the stadium.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 this is pathetic. endorse the coaching staff or let them go.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS! RICK PETERSON... IS IN WILLIE RANDOLPH'S DUGOUT! HE'S COMING BACK!
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Let's be a little fair, because we're hanging on rumours, doesn't mean the Mets are spreading or fanning them, or mistreating their staff. We're complaining about day-to-day reports, but it's really been two or three hot periods --- after the Nats took three of four before the Yankee series, the Atlanta sweep after the Yankee series, and the San Diego sweep.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 The seeming indecisiveness of the Mets ownership and General Manager is embarrassing. They need to make a decision one way or the other and carry through on it with conviction. This day to day melodrama isn't doing the players, the manager and coaches, or the Mets image to future players any good. Looking on from the outside, the Mets franchise appears to be a disorganized, indecisive mess at present.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 AG/DC - "Let's be a little fair, because we're hanging on rumours, doesn't mean the Mets are spreading or fanning them, or mistreating their staff. "You have a valid point regarding the media constantly speculating and fanning the flames. All the speculation and indecision is making the Mets organization look bad and I doubt seriously that it is helping the team's performance in any way.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 maybe its all the media, but all the Mets have to do is say "Willie is our manager, we have confidence in him, he and his coaching staff will be staying put."if they then decide to fire Willie they can always respind to "why'd you say he was safe?" with "At the time, we were not yet ready to make a change and felt that the ongoing distraction to coaches and players caused by you jackasses in the media was unacceptable and a statement was needed to put an end to it."

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) I don't think it's all the media. I just don't think it indicts the Mets as much as you all think. They deserve to make decisions on their own stupid timetable, no matter how many bloggers are chomping at the bit.As long as the Mets are honest with the staff, then they've been fair. Yeah, it's not helpful to the team to have a distraction. But I don't believe for a moment the distraction of "When will he be fired? Has he been fired yet" won't be replaced by the distraction of "Why didn't they fire this idiot?" the minute they lose another series.I don't think the management has done well, but I don't think they're stringing him along from day to day. I think we're writing about it from day to day, and prolonging two or three hot periods into a constant state in our own media-drenched perceptions. We must practice more detachment. Rick Peterson would want it that way. Edited June 16, 2008 by Guest

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 ]The seeming indecisiveness of the Mets ownership and General Manager is embarrassing. They need to make a decision one way or the other and carry through on it with conviction. But didn't the ownership and Omar come out earlier and state that Willie was safe? Haven't they already made their decision to ride this one out? Or is it that the media is protraying the Mets as indecisive. Seems to me that they made their choice-- a bad one, but they've made it.

Just entertaining his readers in case "inquiring minds" wanted to know what the latest was.Like I said in the Jacket thread, this "info" was put on the air on 1050 ESPN Radio, which is just about as irresponsible as putting out info from MetMusingsAndMore.blogspot.com if I decided to write "A source with MLB.com told me Willie Randolph is on the Mets charter to Anaheim right now" last night. Its a blog, an EDITORIAL devise, not really a great news gathering devise.Yeah, its good for gauging opinions on subjects, but in terms of getting actual news, come on, do some digging of your own as well.
