I think he's a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, personally.

One would expect so, unless his name is brought up in Canseco's 3rd book, "I've Got Another Secret to Tell That I Forgot to Tell in the Previous Two Books"

.302/.420/.559 for a 19 year career sound like gauranteed hall numbers to me, he's not going to get to 3000 hits, he was too busy drawing 1639 walks, 9th all time, and he's hit 516 homers.
his OPS is 12th all-time, his OPS+ 19th. anyone who thinks he doesnt belong in the hall either caught him holding a syringe of HGH or is an idiot

...or is someone who will hold it against him that he played 55% of his career games at the DH position.

i don't think DH ever needs to enter the discussion when a guy's numbers aren't borderline, they're shoe-in

I'm still shocked that he only has 5 All-Star Game appearances. Who was getting voted in/selected over him all those years?

I had to look it up to see that the Martinez in question (1997) was Tino. I had forgotten about that monster year he put up.

Thomas, Thome and Ortiz the only consecutive starters in a 17 year span (Thomas and Thome in a 16 year one) suggests an unusually deep pool from which to select, it would seem.

Hmmm. One monster year. Hmmmm.

Just sayin'

Also, Frank was robbed of at least one more MVP. If I remember correctly, it was the one what went to the bastard Giambi.

Jim Edmunds, like a deuce.

The Padres still owed him quite a bit of money for the year, too. He was definitely slumping, but he really had to give the Padres no reason for hope.

The Padres have shown themselves quick with the axe.
