Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 ... are up on the Phils and Jamie Moyer 5-Zip after 2Washington scored all 5 in the 1st and then loaded the bases w/none out in the 2nd but failed to score.8 hits in 2 innings off Moyer although 3 Phillie errors (1 his own) haven't helped.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I doubt the Nats will streak forever, but I'm more than happy to root for them if their streaking while playing the Braves and Phils.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 The Nats are weak on pitching. This won't last forever.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 Reds rookie Johnny Cueto - making his major league debut - is perfect thru 5 against Arizona... and now he gives up a HR to Justin Upton to lead off the 6th.3 - 1 Reds
Guest sharpie Guests Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Til Justin Upton homered to lead off the 6th.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 The Nats have more pitching and more hitting than they had last year. Doubt them at your peril.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 btw, anyone see the highlights from last night's Reds/Snakes game? The Reds get runners on 1st & 2nd down by two runs in the 9th and Dusty has Edwin Encarnacion bunting !?!After two lame tries at laying one down he finally takes the bunt off ... and Encarnacion hits a 3R walk-off.THAT is what you call winning despite a manager's strategy, not because of it.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Jesus Flores, 2-2, 2 2B so far today
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Cueto leaves after 7 having allowed 1 hit and 1 run. piece of shit Weathers has walked 3 batters in the 8th and the bags are juiced
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 So it's not true that the Nats have nothing. Say it! SAY IT!
Guest sharpie Guests Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Nats give up a 6-spot in the 6th to the Phils and are now losing 7-6.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Phils using Adam Eaton as a pinch-runner.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Are you getting the Phillies feed? It's always a treat listening to Harry Kalas.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Harry never really did it for me.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I like him a lot more calling random football games than the Phucking Phillies.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Every time he says "J-Ro" I want to cringe.

With Adam Dunn on first, no more than one run would have scored on anything that stayed in the park. So without the home run, they would have needed a hit from the on-deck batter - Joey Votto - or from a weak hitter (Paul Bako and the pitcher's spot were up after Votto, and the Reds had burned their two best PH's already) just to tie things up. No reason not to bunt the runners over and give Votto the chance to tie the game with a base hit in that situation.

"He was struggling. I told (coach Chris Speier), 'I kind of hope he doesn't get it down so he can hit a three-run homer, and he hit a three-run homer.""Being on the other side, he was one of the guys I didn't want to see up there in that situation," Baker said. "He's a clutch man. That's why he's in the sixth spot."
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 "I'm not much of a fan of bunting, either, but I agree with Dusty here"One run down it'd be a lot different, but I just hate giving up the out and would rather take 3 shots at getting the guy in from 1st than 2 shots from 2nd.And while others things (most of which I'm not aware of from just seeing the highlights) do factor in - like the PHs already used you mentioned and the upcoming hitters - that the hitters behind Encarnacion are weaker is all the more reason to let the one good bat you do have (E.E.) swing away IMO.

The guy has zero successful sacrifices in 1261 career plate appearances.Somwhere, Ozzies Guillen is calling Baker something obscene for not leaving the bunt on with two strikes.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 Phils beat Nats in the 10th on a walk-off walk which followed two intentional walks.Tigers were swept at home by the RoyalsThat Cueto guy from the REds struck out 8 of the first 13 guys he faced.Wound up going 7 and got the win.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Mike Hampton got injured warming up in the bullpen for tonight's start against the Pirates, I'm watching the game on MLB Extra Innings and they were talking about it then showed what happened, throwing a pitch he strained his left pectoral muscle, it literally happened minutes from taking the mound.

That has to rank up there with biggest BS reasons for signing a contract as well when all is said and done (hello, Westchester County schools? CT? Or pick your favorite top notch school district in the areas outside any other big league city).
