soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Curly Shuffle's not really a sing-a-long thoughI kinda like 'Build Me Up Buttercup' for that.Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison - Gay.I'll Be There For You - The Rembrandts - Very gay.I'm A Believer - The Monkees - Eh. Not slow enough for this purpose.Land Of 1000 Dances - Wilson Pickett - No idea.I Love Rock N' Roll - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - Doesn't have enough cross-generational appealLivin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi - God no.Movin' Out - Billy Joel - Please, no.Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond - My problem with this is that its a Red Sox tradition.Waitin' On A Sunny Day - Bruce Springsteen - Um, no.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Why do they need my name, email address and birth date in order for me to vote? This is bullshit - just another way for them to make money. It never stops. Amazing.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 ="soupcan"]Land Of 1000 Dances - Wilson Pickett - No idea.Nah. I'm sure you know this. It's just that most people think of it as:"Naaa, na-na-na-naaaaa. Na-na-na-naaa, na-na-naaa, naa, na. Na-na-na-naaaa!"
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 http://www.metsblog.com/2008/03/31/vote-meet-the-mets-for-new-sing-a-long/Metsblog says you should write in "Meet The Mets"... and considering they can't use the song next year anyway because of the "Shea" line, I think that'd be a grand plan too.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 The 1984 version of Meet the Mets mentions Shea by name, but the original version (the REAL version) doesn't.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 And the '84 version blows chunks anyway.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I think we need to remember the greater good when voting.Write-in choices are nice, but what if there are too many, splitting the vote, and Sweet Caroline winds up winning?
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 If we got other Met blogs and fan sites behind the Curly Shuffle...?
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Build Me Up Buttercup has always been one of my favorites. It's even my ringtone.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 And EVERYBODY knows the words - it's perfectIs there a team that already uses it?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I think I'd vote for "Buttercup" too.The Curley Shuffle belongs in the dustbin of history.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I like "In-a-godda-davida" as a write-in candidate. There you go.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Well - they are looking for a 'sing-a-long'.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Folks don't sing in public to anything in the United States (at least nothing in English), and that's a fact. "Sweet Caroline" is a process of standing around, hooting and hollering, and waving at cameras, until they get their chance to go "Duh, duh, duh!" and "So good! So good! So good!" which isn't even in the song. That ain't singing."Bulid Me Up, Buttercup" would be a process of standing around, hooting and hollering, and waving at cameras, until they get their chance to echo "Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh!" as the DJ turns down the song for three seconds to cue them. That ain't singing either.Going "HEY!" during "Rock and Roll, Part II" also isn't singing.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Well, it's not supposed to be music appreciation class. It's supposed to be fun.And if chanting "Oooh!" or "HEY!" entertains the crowd, then that's what they were going for.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 AG/DC wrote:Folks don't sing public to anything in the United States I do.Honed my singing in public in college on Thursday $1 Import Nights at Maggies on Marshall Street, singing into Molson bottles.'Mony Mony' would be a good sing-a-long except 'Ride the pony' can be (and was) easily substituted with 'fucking bullshit!' and at the breaks singing 'Get laid! Get fucked!' really slides in there nicely.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Then sing a better song for Pete's sake. Teach it to them. And who doesn't know the words, more or less, to "Meet the Mets"?Japanese fans know how to sing out:
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 They should easily replace the awful "Everybody clap yo hands!" thing and even the classic shot from Network with the Curly Shuffle.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 soupcan wrote:And the '84 version blows chunks anyway.Hence why it's been removed from inside the ballpark, but for reasons known only to them, the PA system outside Shea still plays this. The instrumental intro is still used to close out the Mets Extra postgame show on WFAN radio as well, but for all intents and purposes the original has been back in use for quite sometime now.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The eighth inning could get Rickrolled...Rickrolled all year longAre you all familiar with what Rickroll is?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickrolling
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 AG/DC - - "Japanese fans know how to sing out..."If you can't get American crowds to sing in English, you'll never get them to sing in Japanese.

He said that since more than 8,000 people "Digg'd" it, the song should win.I'm not sure if I understand why this song was the object of the fad. It's a good song. The video is silly (the Pop-Up facts version is good) but there are far worse songs and certainly far worse videos.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Do you remember Rick Astley? He had a big fat hit that was ghastly. He said I’m never gonna give you up or let you down. Well I’m here to tell ya that Dick’s a clown -- Nick Lowe
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Wow. What did Rick ever do to Nick?
