]Mets emerge as probable host for 2013 All-Star game

NEW YORK (AP)The New York Mets have emerged as the likely host for baseballs All-Star game in 2013.

Yankee Stadium, entering its final season, is the site of this years game on July 15, with the 2009 All-Star game scheduled for St. Louis. The Los Angeles Angels are the likely host in 2010, with Arizona the leading contender for 2011 and Kansas City a strong possibility for the following year.

The Mets move from Shea Stadium to Citi Field next season.

We were informed by the commissioner that after moving into City Field, we would have an All-Star game but no date has been set, Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said Thursday following similar comments by chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon to ESPN.com.

The All-Star order has been widely expected since commissioner Bud Selig said last July that he planned to announced two or three All-Star sites within two months. However, no sites past 2009 have been announced.

What company name do you prefer over Citi?

I forgot about the shitty thing.

Meanwhile Citi stock continues to drop below my target buy price.

No matter what it is called Met haters will still come up with crude, and maybe even not so crude puns for the stadium name.

Hell, Shea has been called "The Purple Palace" yet last I checked, this is blue, not purple:

I wouldn't be surprised if through the years it was called Shit Stadium as well.

The name of a venue being the cause of ridicule should be the least of your concerns about the new ballpark.

Val;

Have you ever heard of Shea Stadium referred to as "Gay Stadium" or some other term of opprobrium? Did it bother you? Why would "Shitty Field"?

2013, not bad. Start saving for those tickets now.

Other new stadiums that have not yet had a game:
Citizens Bank Park
Petco
Great American Ballpark
Nationals Ballpark

It bothers me because it can be avoided. They could've gone in another direction. Instead they went with an easy name to ridicule.

I think it was Edgy that proposed one of the better names I heard.

'Estadio Popular', the sponsor being Banco Popular.

Fits right in with the large Hispanic population of NYC as well as the whole Latino Mets thing.

Makes too much sense to ever happen though. That and $40 million a year.

I heard somebody refer to it as Shitty Field within about 3 hours of the announcement. Actually they said "Calling it CitiField is a shiti idea"

Have you all been calling Citibank "Shittybank" for the last thirty years? Didn't think so. Citibank paid for the rights, they can name it whatever the hell they want. If they want to name it "Fred Wilpon Is An Asshole Field," then I'm sure Fred would have happily taken their money, and we'd all be referring to the FWIAAF.

Me, I don't care what logo's on the outside, I'm calling it Bob Murphy Stadium.

Citi field is not so bad. Sure, easy to ridicule, but as far as names go at least you can kind of pretend to yourself that it is not a corporate name.

This conversation always ends there.

Actually, after the experiences that I had with them back in college, I have.

I've been a Mets fan since I was 8 years old, an age where you're most likely to hear potty humor.

And I never once heard anyone make fun of the Mets playing in "Flushing."

If any 8-year-olds, or adults with the mentality of an 8-year-old, chose to make jokes about Shitty Field, well, I don't think I'll get my bowels in an uproar.

I can't believe we're having this discussion AGAIN.

But, well (1) Valadius tends to say his peace and disappear without acknowleding people's response. Same with his position that Hilary Clinton's name should disqualify her.

(2) We kind of provokie him into revisitng it.
