Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 For the love of God please no bullshit on the psyche of Met fans and what they do or do not historically expect. Please. Just not until after 5 PM tomorrow.Anyway I'm scared that the Mets won't sign Johann Santana and he will end up on another team. Can anyone empathize with me? Make me feel better I beg you.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I'm not worried. In the least. No way Minaypon didn't know for the most part what it would take to sign the dude. They don't make the trade if they didn't already have their minds made up to throw truckloads of cash at him after they got him.Probably not even the money that's really holding stuff up, but the structure, how it's escalated, deferrals, opt-out stuff (?), no-trade stuff, player/club options, what the incentive $$ will be for Cy votes and the like. Lots of stuff to hammer out. They'll get it done.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 worried.I'm a conspiracy theorist, but just can't think who would be involved in this one. Maybe the Yanks are paying off his agent to make unattainable demands to kill the deal, then they'll jump in and "save the Twins".Uh, I need my medication.Later
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I'm worried.I was at the gas station today, and the attendant (noticing my Mets jacket) kept going on and on about how Santana was a Met, and I kept reminding him that this isn't a done deal yet. I want this to happen more than I can acknowledge. But there's no way that I'm counting on it happening at this point.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Worried that they won't hammer out a deal. Worried that one of our four prospects will get hurt in a cab. Worried about failed physicals. Will remain worried until I see Santana smiling for photographers in a Met jersey.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I've never been less worried in my life.
Guest KC Guests Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 My sensible-side says this will get done and Johan will be a very rich mantomorrow and the new King of Queens. My other side is thinking about ways to finally divorce them if they danglethis in front of us it gets pulled away.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 my biggest worry is a failed physical, not by Santana, but by one of the prospects going back.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 i'm far more worried that the incessant inanity of football analysis will continue right up until sunday night than i am about this. god, can i hear just once about what kind of damned passing routes, or blocking schemes, or defensive packages the giants should use to attack the seemingly superior patriots instead of what amounts to "um, just play better than them"? frick!i'm not worried about santana signing, too much, as i expect him to sign, and if he does not, then i will cease to care. at all. about the mets. no hand wringing. no bitching. just. done. so what's to worry. either it enhances my enjoyment of the sport, or it has no effect on my life. either way, its all good.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I wish it would end, but there's no way the Mets are going to do anything other than make Santana the highest paid pitcher in baseball. The number of years can be dealt with.OTOH, Santana looks like a greedy jerk if he doesn't come to an agreement. So there will be agreement; both sides need it. But even when you agree, these can take time.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I am free of worry. Not even Solomon in all his splendor would be catered to as Santana and his agent.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Yeah, but what if they speak street Spanish??
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 well, they had been keeping tony bernazard in the dark...(actually he was in the dominican and likely didn't have the best cell reception, but i like it my way better)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Like Bobby McFerrin said........like some others I've given some thought to failed physicals.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 If Gomez fails the physical, the Mets could always swallow hard and substitute Martinez. If one of the pitchers fails, they can put in Pelfrey and cash.It all depends on how badly they want to get the deal done.I doubt that any of them will fail physicals. The Mets have been keeping an eye on these guys and would probably know if anything was wrong.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 So if Santana fails his physical do we get Boof Bonser instead?
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I'm getting a little nervous as the negotiations drag on. I still think that both Santana and the Mets have too much to lose if they fail to reach and agreement. Still, I won't be completely comfortable until this deal is formally announced as being a done deal and both parties sign on the dotted line.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Yeah, I imageine vote changing could be rampant if we were allowed to do that.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 It's 19-9 in favor of "I told you wusses so."
