I really thought it was just a flat out error- but I aint complainin.
Ive had that triboom in my back pocket since the all star game.

Zvon might be my favorite member of the Pool. No offense to anyone else.

Maybe you two should get a room.

Has anyone ever seen a stat that tells the average number of pitches that a batter sees during a plate appearance?

I don't necessarily mean for a given pitcher, but for baseball as a whole?

They've been printing/ reporting that stat for Abreau, so somebody's counting it. But I don't know where its recorded/ available.

Willie's letting the rookie bat with 95 pitches under his belt, a five-run lead and 37 pitchers in the bullpen rested after a day off. Today he becomes a man.

I believe that I just heard recently that 15 to 17 1/2 would be the average for pitches per inning.
So-5 to 6 ?

The rankings for batters (P/PA) are here.

For pitchers, it's here.

Does this have something to do with those guys getting a room?

Well, that would assume that the average inning has three batters, which is impossible, since that's the minimum.

I wonder how many plate appearances there are in the average inning? I'd guess a little over four, but it's just a wild guess.

Coste doubles over Greens head in this, the 7th, which is more than likely Maines last inning of work.
Has Shawns head gotten smaller since he became a Met?
He cant seem to keep from running out from under his cap.

RHernadez is up.

He mentioned that in the paper today. His black and blue cap is a little too big for him. He claims that his blue cap fits snugly, but he hasn't had a chance to wear it in a game yet.

Low P/PA guys are a little over 3 per, while high guys average near 4.5

So figure that it's around 3.75 - although the high guys might get more ABs than the low ones meaning that the overall weighted avg wouldn't necc be at the midpoint of the high & low. Prolly a shade under 4 is my guess.

We have an entire freaking stadium full of hats, and we can't find one that fits for the guy who makes eleven million dollars a year?!?!

His head does look like a lil kids on an adults body tho, dont it?
Proportioniatly?

Roberto just earned himself a cool one, and methinks Maine is buying. John left with two on, one out, and Hernandez got out of the inning without a run scoring.

Beltran hooks a wicked drive to the left field wall, towards the corner.
A foot short of a homer as it smacks off the wall and past a circling Burrell for a double.

And Beltran does his stealing 3rd base thing.
Phils announcers are ticked off that Beltran should be doin that with a 5 run lead.

Wright drives in CarlosB with a fly out to left.

Phils relief pitcher Castro had a streak of 17 scoreless inning up to that point.
Aint that ashame.

Mota fans Burrell to end the top of the 8th.

Cow-Bellman is more noticeable in a sparse crowd. And very annoying to listen to.

="metirish"]How many players won rookie of the year and the following year got MVP?

Fred Lynn won both in the same year - for the '75 BoSox

2 more hits for Endy - both of LHPs

I can think of someone who won a ROY in 1984 and a Cy Young in 1985.

And should have won the MVP, too. They gave it to that Clemens kid the next year, and he wasn't nearly as good.
