stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Game Called. Across the field of playthe dusk has come, the hour is late. The fight is done and lost or won,the player files out through the gate. The tumult dies, the cheer is hushed, the stands are bare, the park is still. But through the night there shines the light, home beyond the silent ill.Game Called. Where in the golden lightthe bugle rolled the reveille. The shadows creep where night falls deep, and taps has called the end of play. The game is done, the score is in,the final cheer and jeer have passed. But in the night, beyond the fight, the player finds his rest at last.Game Called. Upon the field of lifethe darkness gathers far and wide, the dream is done, the score is spunthat stands forever in the guide.Nor victory, nor yet defeatis chalked against the players name. But down the roll, the final scroll, shows only how he played the game.12:10 start tommorow! Some Bagels and Baseball to start the work week! Both teams are off but have to catch afternoon flights. Mets to Denver and Phillies (or maybe they'll go to Penn Station and hop on the Acela Express) head down to DC

At least during the week you have activities to do with a rainout, or even go to bed earlier!Weekends can get booring with nothing to do!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 So you're saying that the rain and no Maine has plainly been a pain?

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The bane of rain falls mainly on John MaineBut we had Lindsey and Tug, so there.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 A little Rain Delay Theatre featuring Christy Mathewson, from the former home of Ultimate Mets Database
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Actually from the looks of it, Rain Delay Central and Leap Toad haven't changed much since Yancy picked up and left in 2002!
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The Phillies made the most of their day off, trading for Jeff Conine. The 1985 Junior National Racquetball Champion is hitting .264/.326/.399 with 9 HR and 47 RBI.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 My cousin Bryan (previously mentioned as being tagged with one of those too-perfect-to-tolerate labels) was a junior racquetball champion, around 1982. At 15, he was reguarly embarassing the men (including Greg Buttle) in the open division.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 We were there today. It was... well... wet. We spent most of our time slumming around the Diamond Club and the Team Store, but bolted for the parking lot about fifteen minutes before they cancelled the game. We got out of the lot easy; no traffic. We'll be back in the morning, I s'pose.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I think the sport of raquetball peaked around the 1982-1985 range. Not something you hear a whole lot about these days.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I played raquetball a lot growing up in Ireland,it's a big sport there, not as big as handball though.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The bright side of life.Today at game time = Willets Point in charge of walking tours in Boston far from tv's or radios where he can follow the Mets game.Tomorrow at game time = Willets Point at work where he can listen to the game while working on his librarian projects.I'm probably the only one, but this works out well for me.
