On the active chart Glavine is keeping ahead of Randy Johnson (283 to 269)
and trails:

The "retired" Roger Clemens at 341

and his old pal Greg Maddux at 323

That's really Greg Maddux? Damn.

Yup. Since I put Tommy Boy's Rookie Card up, I thought I'd do the same for the rest of the Top 3 Active Wins Leaders (yes Clemens is still considered ACTIVE)

Tom Glavine is now the 5th all-time winningest lefty by the way

Warren Spahn 363

Steve Carlton 329

="Frayed Knot"]Of course this countdown isn't reaching fruition until at least next year.
And even then it may or may not happen here.

Not so. He's on a pace for 27 wins this year.

That's not a very flattering picture of Bobby Matthews

Just changed it

19th Century hurler, needless to say the highest win total by someone not in Cooperstown.

Tony Mullane, whom the first "Ladies Day" promotion was created due to his being the favored player of the women of Cincy back in the day, suffers from the same fate.

The board is obviously resistant to showing pictures of YES network announcers.

i didn't really think he'd make it, but if he keeps up his turnaround, begun 2nd half last year, he'll make it by the end of next year. He's still signed with Mets thru next year, right?

it still won't seem like a "mets acomplishment" though. glavine will always be too Braves-ey to be accorded any great Mets acclaim.

"but if he keeps up his turnaround, begun 2nd half last year, he'll make it by the end of next year."

At his current pace he'll make it a lot sooner than that.

"He's still signed with Mets thru next year, right?"

Not quite.
He and the team did reach an agreement which gives both sides an option for next year, but it seems like that was done merely to re-arrange this year's payments and, while his presence here next year is likely, it's still up in the air.
What it sounds like is if he requests that he'd like to go back to Atlanta (and assuming they'd want him) that the team will let him go.

well, i don't think he can maintain his CURRENT pace. This last start aside, he's been lights out this year. I'm just saying that if he continues to pitch well enough to be a good starting pitcher, he's likely to get there next year.

And i think, actually, he should go back to Atlanta next year. That would be the appropriate way and place for him to get to 300.

I hope Glavine continues to be a steady, reliable starter. If he continues to pitch like he has the past year, then the Mets should try to sign him for 2007. I can understand his desire to return to Atlanta tfor his 300th win, but I personally would prefer it to be against Atlanta in a Mets uniform.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Glavine beat Kenny Rogers to double digits by about an hour today. Speaking of the Gambler, he has now won 200 games, but has never tallied 20 in a season.

Q: Who has the most career wins of any pitcher lacking a 20-win season?

Posted

The name that first came to mind was Don Sutton, but he did have one twenty-win season (fewest of any 300 game winner, I believe).

Dennis Martinez has 245 wins and never won 20.

i think Dennis Martinez is it. i know Maddux has never topped 20 but he reached it.

Meanwhile, I think it's only fair to point out that Seor Delgado now has 399 home runs.
