Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 A sleeper is someone who wasn't expected to play as well as they ended up playing. A bust is someone who was expected to play well and ended up playing poorly.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Well, Bonds didn't play. Is it right to call him a bust?_____________________________This post was made under the posting designation 168) Ellis Valentine
Guest sharpie Guests Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 I don't know who other than Jim Bowden thought that Cristian Guzman was going to play well. Adrian Beltre in many years would've made this list but Lowell clearly gets the nod.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 1. After all the talk about Bonds coming back, coming back, coming back, he still hasn't come back.2. The reigning NL MVP not appearing in a game is a huge bust, in my opinion.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Beltran has been a bust if you want to go the bang for the buck route,Finley is old and it seems to have caught up with him, Boone,Thome and Lowell certainly should be considered busts.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 How do you have an All-Bust Team without Pam Anderson?
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 is it fair to label a player a bust if he gets hisself injured, instead of simply sucking?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Guzman has been SO bad that even if you thought he wouldn't have good year he's probably still way below your expectations. Not sure who else you'd pick at SS unless you want to count injuries and go with Nomar.I tried making a list but its so similiar to Valadius' that i won't bother. Just a few points:Curt Schilling- he pitched hurt, they won the world series, he missed half of this year. That was the plan, wasn't it? can't complain about him after gutting it out last october.Barry Bonds- are you a bust if you get hurt for the year? I guess i look at things from a roto perspective in that everyone knew he was gone for awhile so the expectations weren't as high.Adrian Beltre- a bust from the Mariners perspective for sure, but what non-mariner fan didn't see it coming?Brian Jordan, Raul Mondesi- they had to replace them, they stunk so bad.
