Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 06:35 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:35 PM Mets have the pitching advantage tonight. Take the W. This is when the 2024 team went on a run. If they don’t do it now, you can’t make those comparisons anymore.

Good to know I don't have to think Stan The Man was a racist prick (just the rest of the Cardinals, and I'm 100% okay with doing that). MFS62 1

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 08:19 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:19 PM You've got to remember that, in those pre-expansion days, St Louis was not only MLB's westernmost town but also its southernmost and that radio station KMOX, 'The Voice of St Louis', broadcast Cardinals games to not just Missouri but Arkansas, Texas and beyond. So there was a certain degree of the Cardinals feeling like they represented the south even if not all of them were from it. The Redskins were the same in the NFL and they stayed white only until into the '60s* (not that you'd ever hear the NFL acknowledge that) because their games were carried by radio into Virginia, the Carolinas and beyond well before there were teams in Atlanta, Florida, Charlotte, etc. The Cardinals finally integrated in the early '50s after Anheuser-Busch bought the team. The story was that when 'Gussie' Busch toured the team's training camp he asked where the black players were. When told they didn't have any black players he asked, 'Why not, we sell beer to black people why wouldn't we sell baseball to them as well'. So maybe not an altogether humanitarian gesture on Busch's part but a practical one to him which in turn led to the same result. * I once saw some pictures (probably in a magazine though I can't remember) about the Redskins one of which was of a teenager/young man carrying a sign demanding to KEEP THE REDSKINS WHITE. I wonder if that guy ever realized the irony of his wording.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 10:18 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:18 PM The Cardinals are ahead of schedule with their build. This series may say alot about both teams Dustin May has been know to throw a good game now and Warm weather Semien has hit stride finally
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 11:14 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:14 PM Moving right along with the 1st inning. I haven't seen KC around in a long time. I hope he is well whippoorwill 1

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 12:18 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:18 AM The Cardinals shortstop, Winn, has an absolute gun for an arm. He damn near took Alvarez's head off turning a double play.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 12:25 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:25 AM Freddy Peralta is hurting his trade value
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 12:30 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:30 AM This sucks. Seinfeld is on somewhere
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 12:47 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:47 AM I would have the course of this game altered greatly. I give fewer than zero shits about Peralta's trade value.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 12:56 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:56 AM Carson Benge, dive for flies dropping in, when they're going to only bounce a few meters away if you come up short. Don't dive for liners that are going to roll to the wall.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:16 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:16 AM Bo Bichette, still swinging at everything.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 01:24 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:24 AM This is bad. Anytime you think they might do something, the 2026 Mets remind you who they are.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 01:26 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:26 AM Just left the game , we went for Puerto Rico Night, got there early, section 520 , had fun , Peralta is such a disappointment, as are the Mets as a whole obviously
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Wednesday at 01:30 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:30 AM Well, that was a poor showing for Puerto Rico.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 01:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:42 AM First time at the park in a few weeks and man that was demoralizing. Bad approaches at the plate. Very sloppy defense. Total crap from Peralta. Team looks completely unprepared to play, let alone win. Just unacceptable all around.

Cardinals are looking forward and playing hard The Mets seem openly unprepared to give it their efforts to win a baseball game This season may or may not end well but the optics are crushing. If they're not listening to Mendy then make a change It's more of an indictment of management that they haven't made that change
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 02:06 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:06 AM Is there a person alive that thinks Mendoza should be back in 2027? Obviously not. So there’s no sense in keeping him around. The remainder of 2026 should be an audition for the strongest in house candidate on an interim basis. at least you can gauge what you have. The Hot Corner 1
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 02:07 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:07 AM I freed up in time to catch the second half of this game. But by the time I checked the score it was pointless. So a second straight night of no baseball. 2026 is going to be the season that never happened. And 2027 might actually not happen.

Is there a hitting or bench or pitching coach that is doing a good job? I couldn’t identify one. I would fire Mendoza and try an interim external candidate because Mendoza is bad and the team can’t fall to sixth place. I can’t think of a justification for an internal candidate at the MLB level being worthy. Maybe the Syracuse manager?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Wednesday at 02:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:42 AM I’ve heard Kai Correa being mentioned as a potential future manager. I know nothing about him. But considering the incumbent, I’m more than ready to try whatever is behind Door Number 1. I’d be fine with whatever external candidate is around as well. I went with the assumption that there aren’t many external guys who would take an interim label. But sure. Again, anything but status quo. I don’t know if any of the Mets coaches would make a good manager. They don’t seem to be very good coaches.
