ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 It's a very good thing to give Tong the opportunity to establish himself as a fixture in the rotation Andrew Abbott elementary goes for the shreds

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 2024: 22-33, came within eighteen innings of the World Series 2026: 22-33, ??? This is it. The low point. IT IS ALL GOOD THINGS FROM HERE. (Except for the whole "that team was way better than this team" problem.) MFS62 1

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27 Posted May 27 It's a weird year. The Cubs were money in the bank a few weeks ago and have now lost 10 in a row and 14 of 16. If they can go from the penthouse to the outhouse that fast, I believe the Mets can pull off a burning tear of one win in a row. Marshmallowmilkshake 1
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I am going to give tonight's game a try to see how Tong looks. I am not convinced he is the real deal (at least at present). First he needs better command so he isn't walking so many batters and pitching behind in the count. I am concerned that he basically a 2 pitch pitcher in that 86% of his pitchers are either 4-seam fastball (62%) or change (25%). He has a that he throws almost exclusively to right handed batters. He has a cutter for a 4th option but it accounts for only 3-4% of his pitches. So for left handed hitters, he is basically 4-seamer up or change up down. It will be interesting to see how he fairs. The Mets really need him to be good (very good).

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 They just look so overmatched in this series. Not only did they get outhit by 3X last night, every hit was an absolute rocket except for De La Cruz's cue shot off Manaea. I don't know if came thru on TV but that was the thing last night--the crack of the bat when Cincinnati was up there. We just aren't the kind of team that can do that by now. Last night the offensive highlight was Baty reaching section 513 with a foul ball. That's hard to do.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Id like to see Eric Wageman earn regular playing time with some flat out raking
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Well our offense (Soto) strikes for an early Mets lead.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Tong appears to have a lower arm slot & release point than last season. That should give him more arm side run on his 4-seam and change up.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I hope Tong is good. Would be nice to have something good happen to the Mets.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Semien rips a hard line drive, but gets robbed on a nice grab by De La Cruz. Wagaman hit his hard shot where no one was going to rob him.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Failure to challenge by Torrens turns ball 4 into a groundout.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Command is one of my concerns regarding Tong. He has walked 24 hitters in 28 innings at Syracuse this season. That leads to the high pitch count we are seeing today and makes him have to pitch behind in the count too much.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Pulled after 76 pitches. Wagaman is welcome to keep hitting like that, but as the last guy in, with options available, and with Polanco starting his rehab assignment, he's swinging for his MLB life.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Yeah. I’m just ok on Tong. I don’t see enough to be an impact starter. Maybe a 4 or 5. Which is fine. I can also see him being a good reliever.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 28 Posted May 28 That was the plate-appearance where Carson Benge became a man.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28 Author Posted May 28 Polanco is on a rehab assignment. I question how much availability he will provide. They should have traded Tong instead of Sproat Keep the lead!!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Question. Is the infield fly rule invoked when the infielder is Vientos?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Building this pitching staff backwards is a tough way to work. I don't mind Bichette being late, so much as swing at balls up by his head.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
