Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Fri (7:10): Michael Lorenzen vs Freddy Peralta Sat (4:10): Jose Quintana vs Kodai Senga Sun (1:40): TBD vs Nolan McLean Mets welcome in the not-as-bad-as-they’ve-been-but-still-in last-place Rockies In 2025 the Rox were second from the bottom in RS/G (yes, playing in THAT stadium) barely ahead of 30th place Pittsburgh while also being DFL in RA/G and by a long shot. Their run scoring is better though still sub-par this year but their run prevention dropped from 6.3 RA/G in ’25 to 4.6, only a shade below league average. Veteran Michael Lorenzen, in his first season w/the Rox, goes in the opener On the offensive side, every non-pitcher they’ve used (except backup catcher Brett Sullivan) is under 30 and there aren’t too many familiar names: C - Hunter Goodman 1B - TJ Rumsfield 2B - Eduourd Julien SS - Ezequiel Tovar (can’t forget THAT name) 3B - Kyle Karros … and, yes, son of Eric LF - Jordan Buck CF - Brenton Doyle RF - Troy Johnston DH - Tyler Freeman And the only utility player of note is former 1/1 draft pick (PHI/2016) Mickey Moniak. Now in his third org., he’ll hit for some powah but has trouble keeping his OBA above the .300 level. Brandon Glick 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 24 Author Posted April 24 Yeah, that wasn't intentional ... it just sort of happened.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24 Posted April 24 The complete list of Rockies I Could Have Said "Yes, He's Definitely An MLB Player" to before looking at their active roster: Willi Castro (he's on my fantasy team) Ezequiel Tovar Tomoyuki Sugano Michael Lorenzen Jose Quintana Chase Dollander Antonio Senzatela

Great IGT/KTE, FK. Later
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted April 24 Posted April 24 The Mets need to keep the momentum going and at minimum take this series. Hopefully they can break out the brooms. They have Peralta and McLean going for 2 games, so if the offense shows up they should have solid chances at victories. Game 2 starter, Senga is the pitching version of Jekyll/Hyde, You can never know whether he will be good Senga or horrible Senga, there seems to be nothing in between those two extremes.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Friday at 10:32 PM Posted Friday at 10:32 PM Nobody posts lineups anymuck? COLORADDY Michael Lorenzen RHP 1-2, 7.48 ERA (Anybody Welcome to Translate That to Sea Level) Mickey Moniak (L) DH Hunter Goodman (R) C TJ Rumfield (L) 1B Tyler Freeman (R) 2B Troy Johnston (L) RF Kyle Karros (R) 3B Ezequiel Tovar (R) SS Jake McCarthy (L) LF Brenton Doyle (R) CF MET-LIKE BEINGS Freddy Peralta RHP 1-2, 4.05 ERA Bo Bichette (R) 3B Juan Soto (L) DH Francisco Alvarez (R) C Brett Baty (L) RF Mark Vientos (R) 1B Marcus Semien (R) 2B Carson Benge (L) LF Tyrone Taylor (R) CF Ronny Mauricio (S) SS That Francisco Alvarez guy hasn't caught fire or nothing, but he sure is finding his way up the lineup since opening the season batting ninth.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Friday at 10:59 PM Posted Friday at 10:59 PM Ok, Alvarez gets his crack at the 3 hole. Maybe that will get him going I believe Carson Benge has the potential to carry the Mets offense at times
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Friday at 11:26 PM Author Posted Friday at 11:26 PM Pop Rox* Kwiz: Name the two players from among Colorado's starting ten tonight who own these career stat lines: 147 PAs: .233/.282 /.429 1,441 PA: .247/.286/.457 * Weren't 'Pop Rocks' a candy brand?
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Friday at 11:34 PM Posted Friday at 11:34 PM Well, since you stated the starting ten, I will guess that the first one with 147 PAs is the pitcher, Michael Lorenzen. Of their line up, the only one I remember much about is Jake McCarthy. He isn;t star material, but he is significantly better than that second line with 1,441 PA's. Would be funny if it was the DH, who has worse stats than the pitcher he is hitting for.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Friday at 11:45 PM Author Posted Friday at 11:45 PM Yeah I figured it would a tough answer, particularly given the anonymity of the lineup, so I inserted the 'starting ten' to serve as a clue. I looked up his stats because I remember Loenzen being a good hitting pitcher back when it wasn't illegal for pitchers to hit (he last had an AB back in 2021). He hit 7 HRs in just 133 career ABs And since Lorenzen was a former 1st round draft pick (38th overall by the Reds in 2013) I chose the overall 1/1 pick (2016 / Phils) Mickey Moniak* as the party of the other part just to see how the two stacked up and the answer was, rate-wise, kind of similar ... which says much better things about Lorenzen than it does about Moniak even though he's off to the best season of his career so far for a guy who'll turn 28 in a few weeks. * McKenzie Matthew Moniak (aka: emineminem)
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Friday at 11:48 PM Posted Friday at 11:48 PM I guess Benge's body will fill out some adding some touch of power Baty and Vientos each with a hit in the same inning
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 12:12 AM Posted Saturday at 12:12 AM Mets are following the script Score one early and get beat
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 12:25 AM Author Posted Saturday at 12:25 AM A decent (5th) inning for Peralta all things considered: ersatz bunt, a bingle banked off the base, seeing-eye single, walk, weak grounder (run), three-pitch K including a successful ABS challenge. Lots of pitches, but deserved better and limited the damage.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Saturday at 12:25 AM Posted Saturday at 12:25 AM Say what you want about overtraining Mets, but each of Lorenzen's arms are the size of both of my legs.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 12:29 AM Posted Saturday at 12:29 AM They mentioned during tonights broadcast that Lorenzen and Ohtani are the only players to ever hit a home run, play an inning in the field and get the win as a pitcher in the same game.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Saturday at 12:29 AM Posted Saturday at 12:29 AM Don't be jumping on that first pitch in a DP situation, Beauregarde.

Here's another guy. This guy pitched, got the win, played centerfield, and hit two homers in the same game. Fella named Babe Ruth. The Hot Corner and MFS62 2
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 12:42 AM Posted Saturday at 12:42 AM Either Gary or Ron said that Lorenzen and Ohtani were the only ones to accomplish the feat. I thought "I can't believe Babe never did it." I have too much faith in Gary & Ron to have checked my hunch. That and I was too lazy to look it up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Saturday at 12:47 AM Posted Saturday at 12:47 AM I'm tellin' ya, double-plays are avoidable.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 12:54 AM Posted Saturday at 12:54 AM That's one way to avoid the GIDP.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 12:55 AM Posted Saturday at 12:55 AM Then the Rockies cash in the successful sacrifice for 2 runs.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Saturday at 01:05 AM Posted Saturday at 01:05 AM No, they haven't been beaten. Bottom of the order is suddenly the strength of the team.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 01:10 AM Posted Saturday at 01:10 AM I hate how every game some scrub pitcher has his longest outing of the year. “Scrubberson has never gone more than 4 innings in his career. Tonight he’s allowed 2 hits through 7…” whippoorwill 1
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 01:14 AM Posted Saturday at 01:14 AM The Mets have a way of making almost every pitcher they face look like a legitimate Cy Yoing contender.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted Saturday at 01:25 AM Posted Saturday at 01:25 AM Damn, Soto hits an absolute rocket, but right at the first baseman. Close to be turned into a double play. Need an Alvarez bomb here.
