Steve Drumwright Grand Central Editor Posted April 18 Posted April 18 The New York Mets have lost a second key bat to an injury. With superstar Juan Soto already on the injured list, the Mets placed first baseman Jorge Polanco on the 10-day IL Saturday with a right wrist contusion. Catcher Hayden Senger was called up from Triple-A Syracuse. Polanco, a key offseason signing, last played Tuesday, going 0-for-4 in a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Like others in the Mets' lineup, he was off to a rough start offensively, putting up a .179/.246/.286 slash line with one homer and two RBIs in 14 of the Mets' 20 games. Senger won't be adding much offensively. His .257/.316/.714 slash line with five homers and 11 RBIs in 12 games at Syracuse marks above-average output for the 29-year-old catcher. He made his MLB debut a year ago, appearing in 33 games with the Mets and having a slash line of .181/.221/.194 with no homers and four RBIs. Brett Baty has started the last two games at first base with Polanco out of the lineup. View full rumor
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 18 Posted April 18 The best thing about calling up Senger is that on the face of it, he promises to answer no needs, so he cannot disappoint. I guess this makes Alvarez 15% more of a fit for the regular righthanded DH, but other than that, a spectacularly inconsequential choice.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I’m still not sure how Polanco managed to hurt himself while not playing but whatever. At least he can heal now. Injury risk was high with this signing.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Would they have to bring him back off the IL before they release him? (not sure if that was meant to be serious) Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18 Posted April 18 who now catches for Syracuse? Did they promote someone from Binghamton? Inquiring minds want to know. Later

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Current Syracuse catchers include Vincent Perozo and Onyx Vega. Ben Rortvedt is IL-ing.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted April 21 Posted April 21 i can't remember what I thought at the time, but this Polanco signing is looking more and more like a Jason Bay/Michael Cuddyer clusterfuck
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 21 Posted April 21 He's 56 at-bats into his season. Not enough of a sample size to make such a bold proclamation.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21 Posted April 21 His current line is: .179 .246 .286 .532 So I'm not sure whether his going on the IL is good news or bad news. Later
