kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Are you intentionally making it to Mets Grand Central from theGrand Central Mets that everyone voted on in the logo thread? When did Willets Point jump into the finals without playing?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I voted for "Mets Grand Central" but I was really voting for "Grand Central Mets".
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 I would similarly ask anybody to consider "Mets Grand Central" and "Grand Central Mets" as the same thing for the purpose of this poll, and consider any distinction to be a product of dyslexia.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Willets Point feels Metlier to me. I know the ballpark is just off Grand Central Parkway, but we always took the Van Wyck to get to Shea when I was a kid, though I suppose we still had to be on the Grand Central momentarily. In any event, I've never associated Grand Central Parkway with Shea/Citi, and I still think of Grand Central Station first.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 I also think of Grand Central Station rather than Grand Central Parkway when I think of GRAND CENTRAL METS.But it looks like we are in the minority, and unless you and I can compel folks to change their votes, GCM is winning going away.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10 Posted March 10 As someone who drove in, I immediately associate the Grand Central (Parkway) with attending Mets games. *Non local to the borough perspective
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 I associate the GCP with going to college.I mean, it was the Southern State to the Cross Island to the Grand Central to the Triborough Bridge to the Deegan, but the largest share of the trip was the GCP.A ridiculously zig-zaggy route, for which I held Robert Moses' name in contempt, though I cannot be certain how much he was responsible for laying the path. Also one of the few "parkways" in the state that allowed trucks, which also was a nuisance, but hey, I got to drive by Shea.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Neither one is any good. Lots of people have already triend the Willets Point thing, seems like, and Grand Central is too un-Metlike and/or too much like Grand Slam Single and you know what happened to that room. It's probably too late but there must be a better thing out there. A Bob Murphy remark or a Ramones lyric that could do double duty and signal in code that this was a place for thinking people to engage in Mets discussion and also be welcoming.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Strawberry Fields would work, if we didn't hafta have the word Mets in there.LFG Metsa favorite of many: You Gotta Relieve

I think there is some concern that dated — Shea-era — identifiers are too old school to be relevant to younger fans."Shea Bridge Mets" is old school but still alive. If it was up to me, it would be "Crane Pool Companion," but I am SEO's worst nightmare.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Pete Flynn's Mets Musings Btw , I would like my Pete Flynn avatar back on the new board
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 That would be nice. I would like my Rube Walker avatar back, but I have no idea where to find it.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I couldn't find Pete Flynn, but this image is in the avatar gallery.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 Yeah, that was a backup. But my Zvon original is in the wind somewhere.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Our Citifield brick says 'To Many Happy Recaps', but I agree- it's too dated a reference.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted March 11 Posted March 11 forgive me but I don't associate grand central with the mets except for getting on the 7 there for that reason I've voted for Willets Point, but I didn't really know who Ed Kranepool was when I arrived from the MOFO so what do i know!
