Fansided’s Robert Murray says the Mets have offered Tucker a short-term deal at an average of $50 million per season. Inferring from Sammon’s reporting that they’ve offered Tucker three years, that could mean they’ve offered Tucker a deal worth around $150 million.

I'd still do it.

It's only money.

"From what I can tell, it's likely they've gone to a fourth year on this. There would be, obviously, an opt-out - probably multiple opt-outs."

There's speculation that this can be decided this week. I'd be okay with Tucker as a short-term solution, so four years with multiple opt-outs is fine.

I hope they get him.

Rumor has it that it's down to the Mets, Dodgers, and Blue Jays, and that the Jays are most willing to go long-term with Tucker. And the Mets are offering the highest AAV, and the Dodgers are somewhere in between. He might take the more money on the shorter term because he's young enough to be a prime free agent one more time. Or maybe not.

Boy, who would opt OUT of $50 million? Tucker's good, but not $50 million good.

Juan Soto, because if the Mets can afford to pay Tucker that much...

The Jays and the Mets both going at it like they each need the win.

The Jays had a Murphy's Law season in 2024, seemed to be second in the bidding on everybody last offseason, and needed one more thing to break their way and they'd have won a World Championship in 2025. Now they've made multiple big splashes and are being super-aggressive. We'll see if they get any closer.

Trying to be objective here.

Let's say the Mets are offering $200 over 4 years. Opt out after year 2, year 3.

If he opts out after year 2, he makes $100M for the next two years, then hits the FA market going into his year 31 season. No QO attached. Alex Bregman just got 5 years at $35 per year, and he's going into his age 32 season. So let's say Tucker, who is better, gets 6 years, $35M per year. That's $210M, plus the $100M he made with the Mets. Total is $310M. And he has the potential to get more, especially considering the dearth of talent in the upcoming FA classes. Of course, his market could be barren, and he could end up making less.

If he stays in the Met for 3 years, and then opts out, he banks $150M, then comes out in his age 32 season. Same as Bregman. Assuming the same contract as Bregman, he then signs for 5 years, $175M. Total is $325M. Again, with the potential to make more (or less).

If he stays a Met all four years, he banks $200M, then hits the market going into his age 33 season. Kyle Schwarber just got 5 years, $150M at the same age. You'd think he'd be able to get a similar contract, again, assuming he stays healthy and produces. That total is $350M.

Let's say the Jays are offering $35M per year now. If the term is 9 years, he's guaranteed $315M. If it's 10 years, he's guaranteed $350M. If the Jays then offer opt outs, then all those Bregman/Schwarber deals are still available to him, with the security of 10 years in his pocket.

So to summarize, if the Jays are offering a contract somewhere in this range, with an opt out within the first 3-4 years of the deal, I don't see how he doesn't take the Blue Jays offer.

He also might not want to live in Canada, which might help us.

What's interesting about these dollar amounts being bandied about is that the current Mets leadership does. not. leak.

So if these numbers are getting out there, it's not likely the Mets leaking them. If the numbers are coming from Tucker's folks, they might be using the Mets to raise the price for the Jays and Dodgers.

Mets offering 4/200 so say sources

Some teams are offering more years at a less annual salary

Taxes are bad in Canada and NY so no advantage there

If both contracts have opt outs does the length of the deal really matter that much?

Tucker may announce his decision at any time now

Sadly I don't think it's going to be the Mets

Man, is this still happening? I'm Tuckered out.

(For what it's worth, it ain't taxes that would compel me to live in Canada.)

This is the most the Dodgers have screwed over New York since 1957.

Well **** I’d much rather have bellinger than tucker, if that’s what it costs for tucker. Jeebus!

Might be able to get framber too for that total cost.
