What’s your message to this team? What do you tell them? How do you break them out of this funk?

Obviously, “stop sucking” but more specifically, what do you think the team needs to hear? It’s all up to you!

If I were Carlos Mendoza, I would:

1. Play McNeil, Vientos and Baty every day. Regardless of what hand the pitcher throws with.

2. Stop wasting my pinch runner by batting him.

3. Stop asking my relievers to work multiple innings in games that are still in reach.

4. Stop playing Cedric Mullins.

5. Ask Stearns to call up Jett as a CF option.

6. Stop using Ryne Stanek in games that are within reach. Even if that means using Justin Hagenman.

7. When you pull your starter with men on base, don’t go to Soto.

I read Carlos is bringing in catered cheesesteak carts (no, it did not

say if Pat's or Geno's) and what will be said will not be reported.

Eat early guys, you don't want to be all bloated and gassy later.

I was going to say that he plead with them to play better so he

doesn't have to manage in Japan next year. Waterworks would

be a nice touch...

Back to the original question, I have no idea what you say to Major Leaguers to get them to play better. I'm not sure there is a right answer, and if there is, I don't see how a fan could ever know.

I do know this. Mendoza's answers are infuriating to fans. Much like Pete's. The "we have to play better, we have to execute, we're too good" schtick gets old really quick. It's aggravating to hear the same thing, with no answers again and again.

That's why so many people have re-written the Terry Collins story. Terry wasn't a great manager. I think there's plenty of evidence of that. But Terry had fire, and sometimes that came out at press conferences, and it made us feel better. Fans see losses. They feel angry. If a manager comes out angry, then fans relate to that.

But was Terry a better motivator of the players than Mendoza? I have no idea.

I guess if I were thrown into Mendoza's situation, the one thing I would tell the team is to try to win every inning. And immediately after that inning is over, forget about it and win the next inning. And maybe if you can get them to think in small chunks, they won't play like they feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. Cuz it certainly seems like they're playing with that weight every day.

When they lose the interview goes like this: gotta execute better, gotta wait for our pitch, gotta get more quality swings.

And when they win, it's : we're executing, not swinging at bad pitches, getting some quality swings....

.

Why do they bother giving interviews if all they're gonna say is this canned B S?

Mendoza sounds exactly like Aaron Boone after a loss

I think it's just manager speak used by all

Waste of my ****ing time.

Just once, I'd like the interviewer to respond to " We're better than this" with "No, you ****ing suck."

But I do think that a lot of the answer is, “you’re better than this”

Because the offense looks like it’s trying too hard, and the pitching staff too.

So if I were Mendoza I’d say to the guys, “who are you when you’re at your best? Be that guy. Don’t try to hit the ball outta the damn park each time - just be a good hitter who’s aggressive on his pitches, and we’ll start string hits and runs together, instead of getting our own selves out. And pitchers, throw the ball like you mean it, instead of tying to be cute. Be the big leaguers you are. Relax, have fun, and go win some ****ing games.”

We’ve seen some of that before, although not this year. There was a game last year against the Cubs, the Mets

lost 1-0, controversial play at the plate and Mendoza says afterwards the umps got it wrong, it cost us the game. Not some mealy-mouthed equivocation about how they’re all close calls, etc.

If they don't make it to the dance he's definitely gone Monday morning

on 9/29. Not really blaming him, but someone needs to get the axe.

Everyone will be fired. New highly-paid Skip will want to pick his staff.

Perfect example of his hard luck is running Mauricio the other night, neither fast nor smart, when he had Siri coming off the IL the next day (and he'd already used Acuna). If he coulda put in Siri, maybe that run would have tied up the 1-0 game, but Siri wouldn't be activated for another few hours.

Mendoza can take a job as a server at Buffalo Wild Wings I guess

He could do FanDuel ads

He's done. Stearns put this abject failure of a team out there. I'm sure he could quote FanDuel odds also

Nothing less than an appearance by Peterman himself can save them

Seinfeld episode. Peterman would be Cohen.

This morning the interweb is all a fuss about a Ken Rosenthal article in the Atlantic dated 9/12 that "cryptically" implies there might be a distraction in the Mets clubhouse

He brings up Soto Alonso and Lindor but it's like reading tea leaves as to what he is really trying to say

My personal guess is if there is anything to this it might be the relationship between Alonso and Soto and maybe Pete's contract situation

Soto will be a Met next year, Alonso? Who knows

Well, you gotta figure one of the chief attractions to the Mets for Pete is it gives him a good shot at a championship, and a great shot at making the playoffs.

Now?

"Screw that, I'm SO out of here!"

Regarding Mendoza. The Baty play is on him. I get it. Sometimes players fall asleep. It sucks but these guys are human. But it should absolutely not happen twice in a week.

That means that Carlos didn’t adequately address it the first time. If he had, Baty would be ****ing alert every time he’s on base the rest of the year.

And especially in that situation where the other team thinks you might be bunting, you have to tell the baserunners to be alert for the throw.

That’s on Mendoza. You don’t have to rip into him in front of the cameras, but you better rip into him somewhere.
