metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Scott at the time worked in the Red Sox org , that's the "we"
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Nice of him to let us know that.Thanks.Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 To be clear, Zack Scott isn't a reporter. The reporter is Passan and Scott is remarking on his reporting

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 This went out over a Twitter/X account.Presumably anyone following Scott on that platform would know who he is and what he does and those are the folks he's speaking to.The only ambiguity is that it's being relayed here second hand and being read by those who don't necessarily know about him.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Frayed Knot wrote:Presumably anyone following Scott on that platform would know who he is and what he does and those are the folks he's speaking to.Exactly. And the people who know him know that he has worked for the Red Sox and The Mets and consulted with the Rangers and the Pirates. So, shouldn't he have identified the team he was speaking about when he said "we"?Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I know you're committed to this outrage act but there's enough info in that Tweet to divine which team is being spoken of, and the ... that leads to the entire tweet reveals its the Sox -- just not red or white
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 JD Martinez signs with the Tigers.Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Shane Bieber reportedly (Yahoo sports) re-signs with Guardians 1 yr, $10 mil, $16 Million option for 2026.Later
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 The Indians presumably have a better idea of Bieber's health than anybody else does. It's a good deal for them if Bieber pitches most of the season.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) Willy Adames, who annoys Jesse Winker, signs with SF. 7 years, 182 mil. Edited December 7, 2024 by Guest
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Jordan Romano to the Phillies. 1 year deal. $7.75M. I was hoping the Mets would be involved here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Eight years for Fried is some stuff.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 The years are really a red herring, since basically every long term pitching contract comes with lost time. The total dollars, though? That's a lot.Not sad he's out of the NL East.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Fried turns 31 next month so the deal takes him through his age 38 season.
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Seems like a wild overpay for Fried.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Jeff Passan is reporting that Toronto is finalizing a deal to acquire ex-Met infielder Andres Giminez from Cleveland.Later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I guess when you lose out on Soto you pivot to Giminez
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Fried's been pretty darn good in his career [ERA+ since his first full season in 2019 = 114, 208, 143, 166, 171, 128]and only in 2023 did he miss significant time. In every other season he made virtually every start: 30, 11 (Covid yr), 28, 30, 14, and 29 in '24while notching a 2nd & 5th in CY voting, three Gold Gloves, two AS teams, and even a (Sigh!) Silver Slugger*.So there are definitely worse guys to give big money to. As always, and especially so with pitchers north of 30, you worry about the length.* The very last one awarded for a pitcherAnd, once again given their usual shunning of long contracts to players over 30, I wonder if the Braves even tried to keep him or justpreemptively decided to let him walk.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I like Fried, but I would have been reluctant to give him five years. Eight? Nope. I'd much rather do what we did with Soto.I own Spencer Horwitz in the ottoneu league. He's kind of a Daniel Murphy type -- he doesn't have the power bat you'd expect from a first baseman, but it's not clear at this stage in his career that he can play second base well enough to stick there. He had an .864 OPS against right-handed pitching as a rookie though, so there's plenty of value even if he's older than Gimenez.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 When the Angels signed Yusei Kikuchi for 3 and 66, I thought it was too early in the offseason to grab a pitcher at the edge of what I'd consider paying for him. Now it looks like the Angels made a shrewd deal.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Guardians flip Spencer Horwitz to Buccos.
