Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Make a one man weep, make another man sing.Let's hope the singers are the Mets.

They're not extinct... they're roaming free out there somewhere. I say we track them down and make a documentary.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Off-days in the post-season can be fun. If you listen real closely, you can hear arms healing.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 I honestly haven't even been watching the NLCS because I'm pretty sure we're going to be let down. The bullpen is just too bad.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 If you'd told me in late May that in October they'd be going into Game 6 of the NLCS, I'd have laughed at you. So this season has wildly exceeded expectations. But as long as they're here, why not win the damn thing?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I've seen every inning of every Mets postseason game since the first game of the 1973 NLCS.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I'll add, of course, that if the Mets DO make the World Series, I'll be watching every single game, maybe twice.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Fans should never take deep playoff runs for granted. I recoiled at hearing Met fans taking the ouster by the Cardinals in stride because, in their minds, that year was a mere stepping stone to a sustained run of winning seasons which was sure to follow. This surge was also going to coincide with the downward trajectory of the Yanx. Yeah, how'd all that work out for ya?Plus, if we do manage to take these next two, the particular AL opponent takes the WS from a 'like to win' situation to a Must Win!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 In a prior poll, I voted WS champ or bust.https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33750https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33750I haven't moved from that position. As Brandon Nimmo said the other day, "one win at a time".Later

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 The day the Mets won in 1969 I was in the fifth grade. They put a TV in the gymnasium and I believe all of us kids and teachers were there with this tiny screenI rode my bike home as fast as I could and watched Cleon get the last outI went onto our front porch to see if people were outside celebrating but no. Everyone was pretty much at work I guessLGM

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Freddie must really be hurting. And it's not like you can move him to DH for a day.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I like Kopech opening. That way you don't see him in the late innings.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I liked McNeil spelling Iggy for a day, but one day only
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 McNardles sure hit raisins out of the ball yesterday, though.
