kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Any word from anywhere on a start time? At least when it's on SNYwe get blurbs and check-ins once in awhile. WPIX can't even dig upsome Honeymooners, Odd Couple or Married With Children...
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Hopefully 6:45 according to Mets Radio Booth on twitter
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 If you could be so kind as to steer some of that rain here, I would gladly send some hot, sunny days your way. It has been 90+ degrees and sunny everyday for close to 2 weeks. No rain to speak of the entire time. Our entire area is like a tinder box and the farmers are really suffering.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 (edited) How funny (and Fun!!) would it be if, after this long rain delay, this game were to end on the 1st pitch of bottom 9?Astros are headed to Toronto tonight where tomorrow is a Canada Day day game!!!! Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Game restarting NOW!!!!
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I don't get this challenge strategy
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Lose their challenge but get another if this goes to 10 anyway ... so that's likely the strategy.Still had no hope of succeeding though.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Out + single + shitty rule = Run
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 A caught stealing with Ottavino on the mound should count for two outs.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 That one was fair! Nimmo should be an All-Star!
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Tough debut for Festa.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Who deserves the nickname 'Uncle' more?Festa, or NYY 1st baseman Ben Rice?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Festa seems to have been an uninspired deployment.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Wondering what kind thought this guy had the stuff to get big league outs. Christ he's bad.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Things might have been less ghastly had we had Iglesias at third base. Especially after Vientos made last out
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 This is the 5th extra inning loss this year by 2 runs or more. 3-8 overall in extra innings in 2024
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I think we just saw the beginning and the end of the Festes era.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 This is the 5th extra inning loss this year by [CROSSOUT]2[/CROSSOUT] Three runs or more. Fixed it for you. They've lost 0-5, 3-6, 2-7, 2-5, and now 5-103-8 overall in extra innings in 2024And out-scored in extras 29 to 9 over those 11 games/16 innings. So the Mets are scoring an average of 0.56 runs/inning with the free runner advantage, which is essentially the average R/I rate Without!! the gift runner. But are giving runs at more than a 3x rate [1.81/per]And to put today's game in perspective, the Mets scored on the first swing with the Manfred Man on 2nd but in six successive ABsafter that, all with a runner in scoring position, never got one in and only once got the ball out of the IF. 10th inning after Nimmo's 2B: K, IW, GO, GO 11th inning: IF PO, FO, GO (only the FO even moved a runner)
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Festa we hardly met ya. Expect that he'll be riding the bus back to the 'Cuse. It's pretty obvious that if this team thinks they have a serious shot at a wild card, they HAVE to get at least two (and maybe 3) bullpen arms that can reasonably be relied on. No more of this endless churn of AAAA chum. . Even when Diaz gets back, there's basically no one to bridge to him. And with starters that can't go more than 5 innings, that's a disaster. Scoring lotsa runs papered it over for a bit, but it was exposed this weekend. Even that first Yankee game, a 9-1 lead almost wasn't enough. The other end of this is pitchers who can't go deep, who walk more batters than Mr Magoo, and put pressure on the pen every night. Severino is the only one holding up his end on that part. Megill, Manaea, Peterson and Quintana are all '5 and fly' guys. If Senga ever comes back that's a help although he'll be limited for a time, too.I figured this team was toast in Spring training. To see them compete and fall short is annoying.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Poor guy seemed like he was set up to fail. Twenty years ago, or thereabouts, it would have been unthinkable to let a guy debut in such a situation. They'd cycle through everybody else, no matter how recently used, and only use him if the game got to the 18th or so.He's a New Yorker, too, making his home team debut, so he probably had friends and family there.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I get that it's his Mets debut, but he did have 93 MLB innings before this appearance. Also, Wikipedia unfortunately tells me that Festa “grew up a fan of the New York Yankees, idolizing Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter.”
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Gary was backing up the dump truck on Festivus references. It was like he knew this'd be his only chance.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 There was way too much May in this game to close out June with it.
