Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 People think Diaz is still Diaz
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 He's not really putting the "win" in Edwin, is he?
Radar Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Twice this season Diaz gives up a bomb. Unusual. But he doesn't look as invincible this year.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Damn, Edwin just hasn't been the same

He's still very good, but remember he sucked in 2019, was just decent in 2021, was great in 2020 but with a 60-game season it's hard to compare that to his other campaigns and he missed 2023...so basically, he had 2022.
Radar Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Well now I'm a bit nervous. Come on Brandon!!!

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 5, 2024 Author Posted May 5, 2024 That's a tough ruling for the scorers. They could have called a hit or an error on any of three players.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 5, 2024 Author Posted May 5, 2024 Man, Lindor wanted to pick that guy off.
Radar Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 (edited) I could steal on this teams pitchers. But it doesn't matter they'd lose anyway. Edited May 5, 2024 by Guest

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 I'm calling this season now , holy fuck this team
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 So it's going to be that kind of year, huh.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 On the bright side, the last time the Mets started a season 16-18, they ended up having a winning season (2019).So all hope is not lost.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 If Diaz isn't the 2022 Diaz, this team is in for a rough ride. And so far he isn't.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 This game was only the fourth time in Mets history that a game ended with a walkoff triple. Three of the four games that ended with a three-base hit were losses for the Mets:June 24, 1968: Lee May of the Reds at Crosley Field. (Reds 6, Mets 5, 11 innings)June 19, 1980: Jack Clark of the Giants at Candlestick. (Giants 4, Mets 3, 10 innings)May 5, 2024: Jonny DeLuca of the Rays at Tropicana Field. (Rays 7, Mets 6, 10 innings.)And the one win:September 10, 1970. Cleon Jones of the Mets at Shea. (Mets 3, Phillies 2, 14 innings)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Author Posted May 6, 2024 It kind of strains credulity to give a guy credit for a walkoff triple. What is happening on the basepaths to credit the batter with reaching third before the runner from first scores and ends the game?I'm not saying it didn't happen. Maybe the baserunner fell over or went into early celebration before touching to plate, but it was fine because the outfielder had already given up on the play. But the batter-runner kept hammering his way around the bases. But that's a lot of maybes to happen on one play. How slow does the runner on first have to be (or, possibly, how many things have to happen to him) for Jack Clark to reach third before he scores?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 I share your skepticism. My guess is that if the winning run scores from first, and the batter/runner touches third base, he gets credited (incorrectly) with a triple, whether or not he got there before the run scored.
