Their offense is actually quite solid as they have potential All-Stars at every position, save for Bader (but including Baty).

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2024 Posted March 27, 2024 Keith Law in his fun column ( he is at pains to point out it's fun ) had the Mets finishing 3rd at 79-83The Mets look like they're going to score plenty of runs, but give up plenty more, especially if Kodai Senga's shoulder injury costs him more than a month. Tylor Megill led all of their other starters with 25 starts and 126 1/3 innings last year, but it came with a 4.70 ERA. All five of their projected starters are likely to break, or have already broken, at some point, although the silver lining is that Christian Scott, Dominic Hamel and Mike Vasil should get shots at the rotation. They should get above-average production from five or six positions, although I wish they'd left the DH spot open for Mark Vientos so both he and Brett Baty could get lengthy trials this year before the Mets are truly competing again.https://theathletic.com/5368497/2024/03/27/mlb-predictions-2024-season?source=user-shared-articlehttps://theathletic.com/5368497/2024/03/27/mlb-predictions-2024-season?source=user-shared-article

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2024 Posted March 27, 2024 I suspect this may be the first season in which no Mets pitcher gets enough innings to qualify for the ERA title.Last year, Senga was the only one, and with 166.1 innings, he barely made it.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I only now recall how much catching-up the Mets were doing through the off-season. The hired Stearns in September, and at the end of the season, the firing of Showalter was mostly a surprise. They initially wanted to hire a GM to work under Steans before they hired a manager. They scrapped that plan perhaps because Mendoza was who they had their eye on. Mendoza was brought on November 13, a week after they officially announced they won't be hiring a GM.They didn't really make any moves except around the margins until they added Luis Severino on December 1. Tyrone Taylor signed up on December 20, but most of the real teambuilding (Bader, Manaea, Martinez, etc.) happened after January 1.

You can try to be a 90-win team instead of a 100-win team (just this once) and get into the playoff melee and maybe turn that into a championship.Maybe I should have said "an 89-win team".
