Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Martino tweeted "Mets news incoming" and I see Pham is not in the lineup today. Cahna and Verlander are, though.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 A homer yesterday and healthy enough legs to play the outfield made me think that Pham was slipping away.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Martino tweeted "Mets news incoming" and I see Pham is not in the lineup today. Cahna and Verlander are, though.Martino followed that with news about Sam Coonrod's rehab. In other words, Martino was being a dick.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I'm making a prediction that tomorrow morning will include some red-hot Luke Voit-for-Kash Konsiderations news.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Let's trade Raley.1. Middle relievers are hard to predict. Might suck later if we hold onto him. Who knows.2. Seems like the market is hot for middle relievers at the deadline3. Isn't he the homophobe? Trade the dickhead
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Getting closer to the deadline. If they trade anyone else, he may have to bail out of the team plane on the way to KC.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Well, there are also AAA guys that could go — Michael Peréz, Tomás Nido, Luke Voit, for instance. But I imagine the plane flight won't be an issue. Kansas City is delightfully located as equidistant as can be from all other MLB cities.

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 I understand the benefit to trading the guys who will be free agents at the end of the year.I kinda get trading Scherzer if it frees up money to get Nola, Snell or any of the younger starters who will be free next year, and you get a decent prospect.I don't understand the talk about trading Verlander, an ace who is under contract for next season. If the team is truly retooling and looks to contend next year, and starting pitching is at a premium, what is the benefit in moving him? What am I missing?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I guess the question is ,and Verlander asked it too , do the Mets see themselves as "going for it " next season? If not then he is open to a trade

But it seems sad that a guy gets on the plane for a road trip only to be told when he gets there that he has been traded. Then he has to jump on a plane to go somewhere else.I wonder if they give a guy a hint there are negotiations going on before he gets on he plane so he'll be mentally prepared. Or do the players accept it as "part of the business"?Is it the job of the travelling secretary of his old team or new team to arrange the flights and luggage? I'm not sure.Later
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 They fly like a million times a year. What's another flight?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I like the expression "talks have intensified" as though there was a polite negotiation at first. and now it's evolved into shouting at one another and banging fists on the desk

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 The Orioles are loaded with prospects beyond Jackson HollidayColton CowserHeston KjerstadConnor NorbyColby MayoI would take any one of these for Verlander
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I'd really like them to clean up some of the lesser-name gobbledygook they tried earlier this year. Ditch the guys like Yacabonis, Santana, Reyes and Brigham. I think Nido could go. Maybe find a suitor for Carlos Carrasco. Get rid of Vogelbach. More controversially, I think it wouldn't hurt to get rid of Peterson and, in the long run, McNeil. McNeil is too inconsistent and has always, to me, seemed like an empty hitter. He's not quite the Jeff we had in the 2010s anymore. But I think of baseball trades from a Baseball Mogul-type mindset. That is, more from a point of fantasy. It's why I'm not a GM.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 An advantage to being retired I can watch MLB Network wire to wire
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 I think the other trades says they don't think they have a shot this year. I think a Verlander trade tells us they don't think they have a shot next year, either.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 This notion that they're punting on 2024 too is preposterous and silly.Hell, with 57 games left in 2023 a ten game winning streak puts them within sniffing distance of the playoffs. Go ShAMs!
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I dunno. There's lotsa credible buzz that Alonso can be had. McNeil, too. Maybe not by this year's trading deadline, but in the upcoming off-season. I'm skeptical but that's what sources are saying.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 They trade Alonso and I am so done with the Mets and baseball.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 It would be a hell of a sell to the fan base
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 That would be a total tear-down. How do you go from 101 wins to a tear-down? Seems like it would be a tough sell to David Stearns, too. Maybe they should wait for him to (possibly) come on board before blowing up the team.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 If a McDeal came for McNeil, I'd be all over it.I love Pete and think he could still be a dangerous DH up til around 35 or so, but he'll certainly want a contract flirting with age 40. He'll be 29 next season. If someone's calling, I'm listening.
