easy one today

Yeah just 3 squares to fill with the two-team combos which are almost always harder (for me) than the single season/career milestones

Back to back days, not sure I've done that before. I had 8/9 and got busy with work and it gave me time to come up with a good TEX 30 SB guy, which I did.

Lost on my second guess today, in the 200K column. I had Bob Gibson for the Cardinals, but when I advanced to the row for the Orioles, I was surprised to learn that Jim Palmer never struck out 200 batters in a season.

I seem to remember that being in a puzzle earlier in the year, because I was thrown by that too. Today I missed on Mike Cuellar there, and finally settled on Dave McNally

I went with Palmer as well. Mussina didn't occur to me.

Went back to BALL FOUR and dredged up Steve Barber for MIL/BAL, an inspired (IMHO) and <1.0% choice

Another inspired choice would have Billy Beane for MIN/OAK (young Billy is in both unis during flashback scenes in the movie) but that was NOT one that came to mind in time.

I guesses Dizzy Dean for 200 Cardinal ks. He led the NL in strikeouts four straight times striking out between 191 and 199 batters. Maddening.

I'd tend to avoid guessing 200K/season pitchers from pre WWII. Batters just didn't strike out all that much back then and a pitcher could lead the league in K/9IP averaging six or even five K's per 9 innings. I mean, if I could get in Walter Johnson, I'd go for him, though.

I also got Palmered on yesterday's IG.

I'm ashamed to admit that I've been playing this game since this thread started and today was my first Immaculate. I usually stop playing once I get one wrong. I'm an immaculate or nothing kind of guy.

Neither Jack McDowell nor Lamarr Hoyt struck out 200 batters in a season as a White Sock.

Hoyt didn't even come particularly close.

I guessed Lamar Hoyt too. My first guess, so I was guaranteed a loss from the very beginning. I also guessed David Cone for the Royals, but remembered too late that I was faced with this once before and neither Cone nor Saberhagen would be correct, but Dennis Leonard would.

Pay attention to the card threads I've been posting since the Mets threw in the towel!

Also, the entire bottom row of my solution all played for both the Pirates and the Royals.

My memory goes to "Floyd Youmans was discussed" but stops before "this was what was discussed about floyd youmans"
