Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Ricky Bones trying to help him off. Seems like he was just pogoing a bit and kapowie.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Looks like the initial hug threw him just a little off balance.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 =bmfc1 post_id=119862 time=1678933646 user_id=73]F these exhibitions. Remove Pete, Jeff, and Adam from the USA roster immediately. F the WBC.Pete and Jeff aren't even playing tonight. There is no purpose for them being there instead of with the Mets.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 All I was thinking was, ‘celebrate gently!'It didn't look like they were going too hard on the jubilation, either. Fucking hell, man.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 Well, maybe Steve Cohen will get behind moving it to November. So, Ottavino is the number-two guy out of the pen?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 My mistake: Pete is playing tonight. He's the DH.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 it's rather ironic that a mets player was injured in a fairly tame post-game celebration, what with our recent history of having a pack of wild dogs chase down a game-winning player and literally rip the jersey off his back. but, ho noes, they jumped around in a circle in celebration of a big emotional victory representing their country. the horror.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Author Posted March 16, 2023 Yes, you can be hurt playing baseball if you're wearing a Mets uniform or a WBC uniform. You can get hurt when being chased by a wild boar or in a Miami taxi. The difference is that these are Mets employees who were acting for another entity outside of the Mets' control with a different goal than the Mets have. Maybe Raley would have had that injury at PSL or maybe he was throwing just a little bit harder to impress his new coaches. Maybe Quintana was "amped up" and trying too hard for March. However, Diaz definitely would not have been injured in a post-game celebration of a spring training game. Pete is now slumping, Jeff isn't playing and neither is properly getting ready for the season. Screw the WBC.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 I thought the Quintana lesion was an organic malady and a non-baseball thing entirely.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 For those saying Diaz wouldn't have been hurt in a postgame celebration in spring training, well obviously that's wholly true and I agree. But if you saw the actual celebration, it's apparent that the injury was a freak thing, not caused by a dog pile or something nefarious in the celebration. They were like kids doing little bunny hops and if his ACL or his achilles ruptured (please god no) doing that, then my dudes, that coulda happened climbing out of his car or walking up the steps or playing with hid kid.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Easier to know where I stand on things when Olbermann has hot take. It feels extremely selfish (and a bit of a shit American POV) to decry players from different places for wanting to represent their countries and call it "meaningless". It may mean nothing to Keith fucking Olbermann, but it's a huge source of pride and means a lot to a lot of players.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 It's not even really just his opinion I take issue with. I take issue with almost all of his adjectives and nouns.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 "...split up teammates based on where their grandmothers got laid."That's fucking great. I wish I wrote that before Keith did. That's a great line. Even if youse don't even agree with it.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Have no issue with players wanting to represent their country. It's just idiotic that they would hold this tournament before the season. And I realize that there's no good time to have an injury that takes 8 months to heal, but at least you take out some of the risk if you have it in winter.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Well, players celebrate just like that in the Majors, too. I wonder if this Diaz incident will have the effect of tamping down those MLB end-of-game celebrations that often follow walk-off hits?

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Author Posted March 16, 2023 Perhaps Adam Ottavino should now remove himself from Team USA.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Perhaps Adam Ottavino should now remove himself from Team USA.Why? To go participate in a different set of "exhibition" games instead? The only guarantee Adam Ottavino has to preventing an injury is don't play baseball.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2023 Author Posted March 16, 2023 So he doesn't get caught in a dogpile if Team USA wins. So the Mets, the team that is paying his salary, can supervise his spring workouts rather than strangers who have different goals. He's something like the 6th RP on Team USA (he didn't pitch last night) so they won't miss him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 I predict he won't get caught in a victorious-but-injurious dogpile.Heck, I'm calling Draft Kings to bet on it.
