G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Scooter's finally moved on. Bright-eyed kid socking homers in the 2015 Series. Grizzled veteran waving a provisional goodbye on Closing Night in 2021. Lotta hits (and dings) in between.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 J.D., Wilmer, and now Michael are all in the SFG lineup.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 He'll always be Confortoboom to me...
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 A lotta damaged goods and bargain players wind up doing good things in San Francisco it seems like.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Bien punto.Conforto had a heck of a Mets career, but this morning, most of the memories that occur are on the downside — the deep, dark hole he fell into in his sophomore year and the shoulder dislocation following through on a swing.I hope to find my memory in a more generous spirit later in the day.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Three good years before 27 but we wanted him to get better after that.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Conforto was Schaefer Mets Player of the Year in 2020. He was the Schaefer Mets Player of the Month four times, and he was the Bench Player of the Month twice.http://leaptoad.com/mets/cards/MichaelConforto1970.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/cards/MichaelConforto1971.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/cards/MichaelConforto1972.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/cards/MichaelConforto1973.jpg>http://leaptoad.com/mets/cards/MichaelConforto1976.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/cards/MichaelConforto1977.jpg>He appeared on two Tabloid Cover Derby champion covers, MIDNIGHT BADNESS in 2018 and STREAKERS! in 2019.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2018/20180603_NYDN_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2019/20190810_NSD_02.jpg>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2018/lobby2018.jpg>http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/lobby2019.jpg>
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 He seemed to vacillate between being very underrated and very overrated (the shortened 2020 with the ridiculous BABIP made him look like way more than he really was), but on the whole he was a pretty good corner outfielder for us for a fair length of time. And he was a big part of our 2015 run after his call-up.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Conforto will also go down in history as the 1000th Met player.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Easy guy to root for. Played hard and had some big hits and big plays in the field. Good luck Scootz
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 The trade of Pete Crow-Armstrong helps perpetuate Conforto's ongoing status as Met with the Most Famous Mother.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Thought he was going to turn into a big-time player for the Mets, but he just stalled. Probably wished he'd taken the QO, but hey.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 That wonderful period at the trade deadline in 2015 when the Mets called up Conforto, activated David Wright from the disabled list, and added Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe, and Yoenis Céspedes all within the span of three or so days. The period (the entire run to the finish line) is rightfully associated with the historic streak by Céspedes, but the whole lineup seemed risen from the ashes.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2022 Author Posted December 24, 2022 Conforto, Uribe and Johnson were indeed clustered together, all becoming Mets in the same series against the Dodgers. Cespedes was a week later (debuting in the showdown series vs. the Nats that followed the bizarre happenings of the Padre set — the Flores non-trade and the Familia implosion in the rain), Wright's return three-plus weeks after that, in Philadelphia, by which time the Mets had taken control of the East.In eight days, 2015 will be eight years ago. Despite those stories run on newscasts about chaos at our airports amid the busiest travel period since before the pandemic hit, time doesn't seem to have a problem getting a flight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 So, basically, I've compressed thirty days into three in my memory. That's a bad look right there.
