G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 The night he was traded, for one…
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Made me appreciate Pete Alonso. He had a similar stance and — if you squinted — kind of a similar swing, but very different results. Often seemed kinda banged up, but that couldn't account for what he swung at, which was often sliders low and away.Caught the second-ever Mets no-hitter.I'm concerned that the Mets brass isn't getting enough sleep.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Has twins.Hit this homerun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieBW1E5tfFQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieBW1E5tfFQWasn't good enough to beat out Tomas Nido for playing time in the playoffs.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2022 Author Posted December 21, 2022 Stepped in to play first base on one of those injury-strapped nights in 2021. Made a nice play and homered despite the position being new to him.Ended a game at Coors Field by throwing out Trevor Story, a Met rarity. Was the Mets' Clemente Award nominee this year, recognizing on- and off-field contributions, which implies he must have been a Hall of Famer off the field given what we saw on the field (no-hitter handling notwithstanding).
vtmet7 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Supposedly Mets are picking up $19 Mil of McCanned's tab, with the O's only $5 Mi.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 I remember being firmly in favor of his signing. Improved offense. Elite pitch framing. I am an idiot.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Cohen's paying the Orioles 19 million dollars to take James McCann off of his hands. Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I remember him for being almost always bad at hitting baseballs.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Never got healthy or comfortable here. I thought he'd be a serviceable bridge to Alvarez and an easy player to move when the time came. Oh well. I'm not convinced Narvaez is an upgrade though.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Always showed his socks over meaty calves. Ridiculously open stance he never seemed to adjust despite it not going well for him.

Frustrating to watch.McCann was painful to watch - like seeing an animal caught in a trap.Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 So the Mets are paying $19 million so McCann can be the Orioles backup C.Strange days indeed, most peculiar mama...
vtmet7 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 For a catcher that couldn't hit; he could sure hit when he didn't catch:(Small sample size) but in his 2 seasons as a Met, he had 42 At Bats combined at 1B/DH/PH...In those 42 at bats, he had 15 hits with 3 doubles, 4 HRs, 12 RBI...for a .357 batting average
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 So the Mets are paying $19 million so McCann can be the Orioles backup C.Strange days indeed, most peculiar mama...Turns out that removing McC's contract will actually save the Mets more in lux tax money than the chunk that they're giving to the O's-- acc to DiComo on MLB.comAlso, since we're apparently no longer announcing trades but go instead straight to the 'Memories of' thread, I had to look up what we'regetting in return from Bal'mer ... turns out to be a PtbNL. Could turn out to be our next superstar (hey, yaneverknow
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Curious, what PTBNL turned out to have good/great careers ? There has to be some right?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Jesse Orosco was a PTBNL in the trade that sent Jerry Koosman to the Twins.I have a feeling that for this trade, the player isn't ever going to be named. Unless the Mets find they need a backup third baseman for St. Lucie or something, and then the Orioles will throw them a warm body.

Show us the math NOW, Anthony!!

Show us the math NOW, Anthony!!Mets are paying a 90% tax on payroll amounts above $293M.Eliminating $12M from what counts towards the tax limit (McCann's contract) means that there is $10.8M in CBT tax savings. So, when the Mets traded him, even if they are still responsible for $9.5M each of the next two years, it's less than the CBT tax they've avoided.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I thought McCann would hit for consistent powerHe didn't come close to that and was oft injuredI wish him well
