Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Ordinarily, I want to be pleased that the Yankees were eliminated but Ted Cruz was there right behind the plate cheering for the Astros which complicates things.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 And now thanks to the rigid inflexibility of modern postseason scheduling, there will be a four day hiatus before the World Series begins. So that's pretty damn stupid.

He is lucky that there isn't anyone in position to call him into the office and deliver the grim news. Edited October 24, 2022 by Guest
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 The same paying customers who booed Steinbrenner at ceremonies honoring Paul O'Neill and Derek Jeter are sick and tired of the Yankees saying they willingly signed up to be judged in October, only to repeatedly fail in October. I would have booed O'Neil and Jeter, too.Later

He is lucky that there isn't anyone in position to call him into the office and deliver the grim news. This is why baseball playoffs are unwatchable as far as I'm concerned. Young Steinbrenner is essentially complaining that his Yankees aren't winning enough coin flips and behaving as if he's entitled to win coin flips. That's really what this all comes down to. Instead, he should be thanking his lucky stars that some 20 years ago, the Yankees were able to win three straight World Series titles. It was an incredible run of luck to be able to pull that off with expanded playoffs. I'm positive that with the current playoff format, the odds of a three-peat are so astonomically miniscule, no matter how great or dominant some team becomes - that I won't see a baseball three-peat under this format even if I live to be 250.

vtmet7 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 on the subject of Jeter/O'Neil...I don't know which bothers me the most:The Yankees retiring O'Neil's number;Jeter winning gold gloves;Jeter thinking that he should have been a unanimous first ballot HOFer...Jeter's stats are solid, don't get me wrong but...IMO, he add Ringo Starr are 2 of the luckiest people in their professions...Put Jeter at another defensive position, and on a different team all his career, and is he still a 1st ballot HOFer or Gold Glove winner?
