Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Three pitches retires Anderson.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 That racist chant (instead of, say, “Let's go Atlanta”) is some real bad ju-ju.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Jansen slammed that door 1-2-3...
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Marlins in the 9th: Anderson 3 pitches - strike out, Stallings 3 pitches - strike out, Groshans - 8 pitch fly out to Acuna. The dreams just died.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Despite the touchdown lead, Walker joins Carrasco in not sticking around long enough to get the win.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Time for the subs. Let's get Alvarez in at Catcher and Vientos at third.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 As you wish! Alvarez and Vientos
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 And Alvarez gets his first ML home run!

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Yeah, any dogs still there should get 2023 season passes.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Congrats, Francisco. Nice 1st MLB homer. Not so congrats on the timing. Thanks (not!) for waiting until the Braves clinched the East to homer. Coulda used that homer earlier this week. Had the Mets beaten the Braves just once this week, this doubleheader sweep over the Nats woulda clinched 1st place and a first round playoff bye for the Mets. Also, the Mets spent 289 days in first place during this and last season combined, more than any other team in baseball. Just not when it counted, on the last day of each of the two seasons.Well, this is the Braves 5th straight division title. And they're the reigning WS champs. So this isn't any kind of a fluke.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Yeah, I mean, if they're heating up, even a couple of days later than we all hoped, it's OK if they can take that momentum with them to the WC round and hopefully beyond
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Without knowing how the new acquisitions would perform, if you would have told me in March that the 2022 Mets would finish as a wild card and second in the division to Atlanta by a game or two, I would have said "Sign me up for that!".If you would have told me in March that the Mets would win 100 games without JdG for half the season and without Scherzer for multiple IL stints, I would have called you an impossible dreamer. There were large stretches in 2022 where they looked like the best Mets team I've spent any of the past 25 years rooting for.I'm proud of these guys and eager to see them in the playoffs.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 This is all true. The frustration come in that they were thisclose and let it get away. The sweep by the Cubs was as harmful as the sweep by the Braves. They get to re-set now, but the Padres will be no walk in the park. And beyond that lie the Dodgers.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 The Mets had a season to be extremely proud of. But if Cohen wants WS titles, like he said he did, (and why wouldn't he?) he's gonna hafta compete with the new breed of super teams -- like the Dodgers and the Yankees. Which means plugging up every hole. Improve wherever there's room for improvement. No holes. There's no room for James McCann's and getting the kind of woeful DH production the Mets got this year -- from a position that by definition, doesn't field and so is expected to rake because there's no need to compromise offense for defense there, is just unacceptable. I'm not nitpicking. This is what's gotta be done to field, not a playoff contender, but a WS contender. Cohen's got the cash to do this. He doesn't have to play that poorer team's game where getting into the playoffs is enough and then hope that the lucky crapshoot nature of playoff baseball goes your way.
