People break 61 year old lesser records all the time. Pete Alonso literally broke the same caliber of record 3 years ago. Did he get back pages and cut-ins?

Michael Kay (And Sterling) are their announcers. that's what they want. Garbage franchise gets it's garbage sound byte.

I don't think I've ever even heard the Maris HR call? I think I watched the 61* movie though, was it in that?

Well, I guess Michael Kay was my small issue. And I was fine to leave it at that.

Until someone brought up Bonds* in a thread about a guy who broke a 61 year

HR record. It's really not that hard to 'get' if you go back and re-read.

That's all you get, so make it last.

if you look upon his face you immediately turn to stone. It's why jeets never had any range at SS.

Sometimes, I'm thinking about Michael Kay. Or, actually, I think I'm thinking about Michael Kay, but I'm actually thinking about John Sterling. Sometimes, I think I'm thinking about John Sterling, but I'm actually thinking about Michael Kay. I conflate.

But when I think, what I think is that it's a ridiculously bad situation that this staggeringly successful franchise has not only employed such poor broadcasters, but they've allowed them to stick around and become insinuated into the Yankee brand, so everybody has to pretend these guys are real assets to the brand when they aren't, and generations don't realize that they're playing out "The Emporer's New Clothes" on a nightly basis, and things don't have to stink this much. Making a change would be the organization admitting that they've been feeding folks garbage all these years. So instead, they keep feeding it, thinking maybe they can try to council these guys into retirement some day, but knowing that if they even try, some columnist would get wind of it and whip up a woefully misinformed fan rebellion.

The same thing happened with Rizzuto for two-plus generations. Folks were convinced they were lucky to have him when they in fact deserved far better.

Was it Kay or Sterling who was featured in Fman's KTEs with Suzyn Waldman? Which one does the horrible "It's high, it's far ..... it's caught by the second baseman" call?

Frank Messer and Bill White here

who'd a thunk that was going to be the "best" yankee booth of our lifetimes? you would think that a team that has such a storied history, and has people wearing their hats all over the world; could afford to hire better announcers than the shitshow announcers that they hire...between the "it is high...it is deep...it is an AGone for ARod" idiot and the "ohhh myyyy gawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwd....Roga Clemens is in George's box" lady...the yankees notoriously have the most facepalm type of announcers in sports

It's very Yankees to have something pretty historic (more than Judge!) in Suzyn Waldman in the radio booth for ever, and not let her speak (do PbP)

I liked Red Barber from his days announcing Brooklyn games, and still liked him when he carried over his easy going style to the MFY booth.
